It was a total waste. I put it in the living room knowing I wouldn't want to spend time in DS's room, and I still never used it. The couch was more comfy. His room has a twin bed in it, and I slept through most of the <6 months feedings. Even now, I'd rather lie down to nurse than sit in a chair at 3 am.
I have spent many, many hours in our glider. I used it a fair amount with DS1, but even more with DS2. It was a good, quiet place to nurse and rock him before bed and naps. I could go in the nursery and shut the door, and DH could play with DS1 and make sure he didn't come in and disturb the baby. I have a super comfy Little Castle upholstered glider with a washable slipcover. It was pricey, but given that it has been in fairly continual use for over 5 years and will get used for a couple more, I think it's been worth it.
That said, I still did plenty of nursing in the family room, in my bedroom, in DS1's bed while I laid with both kids, at the kitchen table, etc. I pretty much just nursed all over the damn place.
We got a big puffy leather recliner for our living room. Got a smashing deal on it. Matched our furniture. If I was in the living room I would use this as my BF hanging spot and really it worked nicely with the arm rests. But I didn't get a matching "glider" for the nursery because I was never really in her room.
We got a Dutailier rocker/glider on Craigslist. I didn't use it at all until DD was much bigger - over a year. She was in our room until then, so it didn't make sense. We use it before every nap now, and before bed. It's where we nurse, read stories and sing before she climbs into bed. I'm glad we have it, it's comfy enough, but I'm even more glad that we only spent $50 on it!

We have one in our bedroom that we got from DH's cousin. We used it a lot in the beginning. I don't think we really used it once we moved DS to his own room (5 months). If it was in his room (we don't have room) I am pretty sure I would still use it (now I nurse him on the bed that is in there). But I like being able to rock.
We use ours a lot, especially now that DD is old enough to get distracted by everything. Nursing anywhere but the nursery results in insanely sour nipples for me as she will yank them around as she turns her head to see everything the dog and cat are doing. She also falls asleep better when she is actually rocked. We also don't have any other seating options on the second floor other than our bed and an office chair.
I got a Poang rocker from Ikea that I was going to use. After the c/s and health problems I couldn't get in and out of it so my parents switched out the rocker with their glider. I wish I had purchased my own. We used it so much in the beginning and through his colicky phase. However we haven't used it much since ~4.5-5 months.
I am still planning on buying a Best Chairs glider when I can decide on a fabric.
We used ours a ton, but primarily for before bedtime and naps. I only used it to nurse at night since he was in his crib from day one. It wasn't the best for nursing, but I love rocking and reading books in it. I would love to upgrade to a more comfortable glider that is more like an armchair, but can't justify the cost.

We have a glider, it's in the nursery. It often works when M is fussy. Currently I'd say we use it once a week, in the early weeks it was daily. When he gets older I can see reading to him while sitting in it.
During the day I nurse in the living room, at night we do side lying in our room.
For Dd2 we nurse in it before bed every night. If we had a nap routine (sigh) it would be part of it. It was a gift and is super ugly, but is so so comfortable.
We used ours a lot, but primarily around bedtime or if she needed to calm down or something. Right now we have it in the living room and just use it as an extra chair. We got it @ BRU for under $200, including the ottoman.
DS2 loved to rock as a newborn. Lots of hours spent in that chair just to get a little sleep at night. Heck, at 2 years old he still asks to "rock in the chair" at least a few times a week for some quick cuddle time after he gets up from a nap or before bed. We got a glider from Babies R Us (I know, I know) and it's still holding up great after 2 years but it was cheap enough that I won't feel bad getting rid of it once baby #3 outgrows the rocking stage.
It's not a must have, but the chair you described using with Lucy sounds miserable.
We bought a nice stuffed rocker and ottoman from PBK and we never use it. 😞
I nurse either in my room or on the living room couch. Now that he's older I do occasionally try to rock him rather than nurse if he wakes up at night, but with the big armrests he can't be laying horizontally.

I'm not a mom, but I nannied 10 hours a day for a family with a 3.5 year old and a babe - I was there when the youngest was 6-10months.
the glider in the baby's room was very helpful for calming him down/quiet bottle feedings before naps. if we were out in the living room with the 3.5 year old, there was a 100% guarantee that there would be no napping.
I guess I could have just walked around the room and held the baby, but he got pretty heavy at the end, was still napping 2x a day, and the chair was much more comfortable.
Okay, okay, I'm giving my input even though I'm not a mom.
I couldn't justify trying to talk my husband into being on board with buying a glider. If I bought one, it was going to be a nice one, not a cheapie. I just couldn't imagine spending $500 on a piece of furniture with a limited life in that room. Even if we picked out beautiful fabric, a glider is a glider. You rarely keep it in the living room when you're done with it, and they don't usually stay in the kiddo's room past say, age 10.

We spent a lot of money on the biggest Dutalier glider and ottoman ($1K) so I could hold both kids at once, and it was seriously one of our best purchases. I LOVE it. We've used it every single night for the past 26 months, primarily to do our bedtime routine/read stories/snuggles every night. It was our only splurge--everything else was Target/inexpensive, and I have never regretted it.

We bought a best chairs glider and I have used it every night (that we haven't been traveling) for over 2 years. We read DD her bedtime stories in it now, rock her if she doesn't feel good, and I nursed in it every night for 16 months. It is possibly the best baby item we bought, although not cheap.
ETA: DD slept in her crib from day 1, she STTN around 8 weeks, but we nursed before bed every night in it. Now, she loves to sit in it and flip through books by herself too.

Eh, not all gliders scream nursery. Ours is a charcoal gray overstuffed-looking armchair with a matching ottoman. When we're done having kids, it will fit in just fine in our living room or family room.
FWIW, we have the Best Chairs Quinn and love it. I only use it maybe once a day now, because he's still sleeping in our bedroom and I nurse in the living room during the day, but once he's in his crib that's where I'll do all our middle of the night feedings. It's super comfy and I don't regret the $$.
we do middle of the night bottles in the glider, we also use it when we are putting her down at night, or if she's fussing a lot during the day and the swing isn't enough to soothe her.
Like Brie, ours doesn't scream nursery. We have an upholstered chair with rocker feet on it, but it can be switched out to stationary feet. Our plan was always to move it to the living room.
My frowny face was about the actual chair not being wide enough to make nursing an older infant comfortable. I wish I'd used it more when he was little.
If you don't need more living room furniture, though, don't do that. 😄

We have a Dutalier glider that *gasp!* looks like a glider. We used (and still use) it a ton. I nursed him in the chair for every overnight feeding (yes, I did get up from my bed, sit in his room and nurse him). I nursed him fairly often during the day there. Hell, he still gets 90% of his bottles in that chair.
For us, it was necessary and I'm thrilled we bought it. There is no other place to sit in his room, it was very comfortable for nursing/feeding/hanging out and it's something that we'll at the least use for 1+ more children.

We chose our glider knowing it would not go in DD's room. It looks nothing like a typical glider, very contemporary with charcoal fabric (SUPER washable ) and can also recline. I used it every day I BF, so for 15+ months, and now we just hang out in it. If you know you'll use it, go for it regardless of where it ends up. Maybe get one off CL so you don't feel bad about it if it doesn't work out?
I used mine a TON. I had a Best Chair and frankly I wish I had spent the extra $450 or so for the Dutalier (sp? too lazy to look it up) I really wanted. The Best is fine but that's just how much time I spent in it; I felt it would have been worth almost $500 extra on top of the $800 we had already spent just to get one that met my needs slightly more.
The glider is currently in a corner in our living room and I use it all the time there too, as a reading chair and to cuddle with DD. In fact I am kind of upset about having to move it into baby #2's room eventually and am considering either getting a used chair for that corner or a used glider for #2 so that I don't have to give up my cozy reading spot.
Edit: ours isn't glider-looking and goes well in the living room in case that was at all ambiguous.
I have a Luca glider & ottoman ($1k+) bought after DD was a newborn. It's dark gray & lives in the office, which is next to our bedroom & has a TV, fireplace, etc. We bought it as a chair for the office that does double duty. We'll see how much it gets used

Gliders are cute, but we got a recliner.
Omg I am so glad. It is ugly, but it is awesome. So comfy for nursing, and great for when they need to sleep semi-upright when they have a cold. Both the kids sleep in it at night if they have colds and they sleep so much better. DH slept in it after his heart surgery, etc. it is comfy for reading books to them.
Once we are in our new house one of them will get the recliner in their room, and the other will get a hand me down glider. Recliner will be fought over to the death.
