Obvs I'm a Nestie (GBCN-ie)?) for life...I've met some amazing people via The Nest and the SO board has been invaluble while going through the whole fun of a divorce.
THat being said...it's SO interesting to me that when a national event happens, whether it's a natural disaster or tragic events, etc. I hop on the GBCN boards and learn SO much more and get such a better pulse of what's really happening vs. the news or FB. I feel like I hear the same stories over and over on teh news, they focus on one thing or are getting ready to pounce on the "latest/greatest" versus what's really happening. FB is often full of false information (like the false pics of the storm, etc.) or it's hard to know what's really going on on the East Coast as most of my friends/family are West Coast.
Just take for example Hurricane Sandy- Not only on this board, but I've lurked on a few national boards because I know they'll talk about it and it's interesting to hear from real people about what's actually happening. It just amazed me how this places can atually link a bunch of strangers together.
That is my random thought of the day. I hope all you East Coasters are doing OK and hanging in there! Anyone get any of hte crazy insane snow they were predicting?

The snow was apparently pretty bad today in West Virginia and the western part of Virginia. I'm driving over there on Friday, so I hope it's not too bad!
I find it also helps put a personal spin on national news, knowing people on here who are affected by it. I "know" people who it affects, so I care more, KWIM?
