I'm asking $100 for a weed eater. They say they will come pick up for $75. Ok.
Then he says he didn't realize I lived that far away and asks if I will meet him halfway between my town and X town.
Sure. Then I ask to set a time and he has no preference. So I tell him 2 p.m. and he says 5 p.m. would be better.
Then he says he would rather meet in another town, which isn't even between our cities, it's way the fuck past both cities. No, dude, I'm not driving ~125 miles so I can make $75 on a FUCKING WEED EATER.
Of course, he managed to say all this over about 25 e-mails.

I was recently looking for a bike trailer on CL. One guy said I could meet his partner (?) at one of their storage facilities (?) to look at two trailers.
Yea, no. Seemed like a bad idea to me.
In your case, I would seriously think he was trying to lure me somewhere. But I'm paranoid like that.

lol, now I feel bad, we're trying to sell our lawn mower too and it's located in a storage facility. I hope no one thinks I want to lure them somewhere!
H is selling something on CL. I am paranoid, so I am making him haul a rather large item to a public parking lot so that said buyer doesn't know where we live to come back and rob us later.
I bought a bookshelf and they wanted me to meet them at a storage facility. That scared the beejesus out of me. We met in a ban kparking lot instead. I need witnesses and preferably security footage
I personally wouldn't go to a place that wasn't public - like a starbucks parking lot or something. If someone told me I had to go to a storage facility to get something, I would assume it was a plot to kidnap me.
I can understand not going to a storage unit for something small, but how am I supposed to sell the lawn mower without having someone come to the unit?

I would mention it in the ad. "Lawn mower located in a storage unit in X town. Buyer will need to arrange meeting with seller at storage unit for purchase and pick up". If its out there up front the it's not skeevy or scary and the buyer will know what they are getting into before they contact you.

DH met someone in a grocery store parking lot - in the evening so there was heavy traffic - to sell motorcycle gear. You could do the same with a lawn mower.

Umm, this is a full size lawn tractor. That's not going to happen.

Holy! Then definitely go with the pp who said to mention the storage facility in the ad.
We sold DH's car on CL. It took less than a week but holy cow, people ARE dumb. My ad was very detailed and had just about everything you would want to know about the car, yet I still got phone calls and emails asking about the mileage, the interior, whether it was auto or manual, etc. All the things that I put in the ad. We also got weird people texting us, saying they would give us $x and had the cash in hand, etc., without even asking to SEE the car. I'm glad we got it sold, it was kind of stressful.

I just imagine papier rolling up on a tractor in a Wegmans parking lot. WIN!
Thankfully, almost anytime I've posted anything on CL I get tons of responses, so I can be choosy about who to respond to.
If this is something you've posted recently and this person is a PITA, just say no and move on to the next person who will no doubt come along soon.
I think for smaller items you should always meet in a neutral place, but I guess for a tractor lawn mower that isn't possible lol. I would assume most people looking at that kind of thing are big burly men or are couples or whatever who would come together. I mostly worry about meeting a person alone as a woman. I know I'm stereotyping but I'm always afraid I'm at greater risk of danger because I'm female.
As a seller I usually ask to meet elsewhere too because I don't want weirdos knowing where I live.
I found our dog sitter on CL and he's great. He was just here this weekend and so far it looks like everything is ok and he was not a freak. So sometimes CL works out!
