I have one of those all-white Macbook laptops from 2008. I'd had some issues with it in the past (mainly due to a lack of memory), but recently I went to turn it on and got absolutely nothing. I tried charging it, removing the battery and putting it back in, everything that the websites suggest ... nothing. MH had just gotten me an external hard drive, too, and I was planning to dump some data on there to free up space, but then the laptop suddenly stopped functioning.
MH took it to the Apple Store for me and they couldn't do anything right then. They COULD keep it for a while and try to recover my data, but the cost is ridiculous and I may as well buy a whole new laptop for that price.
Does anyone know of a MM data recovery service or DIY method? I had the important things backed up on thumb drives, so there's nothing on there that's lost forever ... I'd just like to get my music and some more photos/documents off there if I can.
When I couldn't start up a desktop my brother sent me some cables (power and usb) that I plugged into the hard drive to turn it in to an external drive so I could get everything off it.
I have a 2008 white MacBook too. It is having issues from being too full. I just ordered a refurbished MacBook Pro identical to what they are selling new for 15% off. I betting it only had an OS upgrade done. Worth checking into if you are sticking with macs.
You can get an adapter so you can hook up your laptop HD to a desktop to pull the data off, like an external harddrive. If you don't think that you can do it, then get some recommendations for someone to do data recovery.
