My dog is usually pretty nice. She barks at people on her property, but she really only loses her shit when other dogs walk by.
Except on Halloween.
She hates costumes, mostly with masks. She doesn't love people on her property. She also hates when people take stuff from our house. When we've sold furniture used, she's totally lost it. And to add insult to injury, the stuff that I give them is FOOD. Food that is RIGHTFULLY HERS.
It's the perfect storm of doggy hell, at least for my doggo. She HATES Halloween. She hated it even more when I'd put her in costume, which I stopped doing because though it is adorable, it agitates her even further.
Kids actually choose not to take candy from me; they run away instead because they hear/see her. It's so sad. My dog is now leashed and is wondering why she isn't getting a walk. It's so I can tether her and give candy in peace.
My dog think Halloween is Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years all rolled into one. She loves it when the kids pet her and ooh and aah over her and her costume. She love the the littlest ones the best.
But when we need to put her up, she goes in the family room with a big bone or a frozen filled Kong and the door closed. That keeps her happy and calm. Chewing the bone/emptying the Kong also tires her out, which is also a good thing.

This is our first year handing out candy (no TOT'ers in our old house) and our neighborhood is insane on Halloween. So, I am thinking I will be handing out candy on the front porch to keep the dogs from barking and driving me crazy.

The doorbell is driving mine crazy. She is being good about staying at the top of the stairs. She is barking like mad. No screaming children yet. The one older set we got loved her. The little kids have been side eyeing the giant dog barking. I'm not opening the door until she sits. It is worrying her, only another hour to go.
