Holy hell I was going to create a post on this very topic aimed at you Kuus...haha.
I read all the article on this Tuesday and it still hasn't sunk in yet. Half of me is excited to see if someone can breathe life into SW since George Lucas nearly killed it. I actually liked the last ST movie better than the last three SW films and looking forward to the new ST next summer. The other half of me thinks Disney will hire the wrong screenwriters and directors and it will be cheesy.
How do you feel about it Kuus? The SW fanboys are probably going to drive you even more crazy than before..lol.

I didn't feel any sort of way at first, since I hate Star Wars. Then a couple of people who are pretty smart told me that the expanded universe from the novels is vastly more interesting than the movies, even the originals, and that even they in their fandom have to admit that Lucas is a terrible storyteller. That being the case, I'd be willing to give new movies a try if they came from this expanded universe that I've heard so much about. I'll even be excited about it if they turn it over to some of the writers that Pixar uses.
The only thing that gives me pause is how dickish Disney is with copyrights. Are they going to crack down and obliterate the expanded universe, since most (if not all) of the novels are unlicensed?
Yes many years ago I read around twenty EU novels, and most were very good. They were a bit grittier and seemed to target a more mature audience whereas Lucas's movies were generally amied for a younger audience. I can already tell this will be a point of contention with the fanboys...most will want the new movies pulled from the EU...the rest will want an original story. I will say the original story would have to be a homerun in order for them to not piss off the masses who love the EU.
I work in educational fundraising and just read that Lucas is going to use most of the money he made from the sale to support education. That's billions of dollars into education! This made me give George Lucas a big thumbs up, despite the fact that I didn't like Episodes 1-3.

I'm effing pissed about this. When I heard about it from a friend: for the first time in my life, my mouth was stuck open in an expression of shock for several minutes. Not good.
I'm surprisingly non-plussed. I kind of feel like even Disney would have done a better job on Episode 1 than Lucas did. At least Disney writers usually put a bit of wit into their scripts so that it's entertaining to people over the age of 6.
I guess it comes down to: My annoyance with Lucas outweighs my fear of Disney mucking it up.
Plus, I already live in my own fantasy world where nothing was added to the Star Wars universe after 1996, so if Disney does something awful, I will just continue in my current delusions.
