I really am interested in interning again at the State Legislature this session (first half of next year) but don't actually want to intern for a legislator.
I saw an ad for a law office that has lobbyists looking to hire legislative aides for the session, and I can get internship credit with my school (6 units....which would knock out some elective requirements for my major.) The positions are $12-$14 an hour, and I meet all the requirements perfectly, plus I have legislative experience. Trouble is....they're full-time + overtime. I'm a full-time student. I could make it so my classes are only on two days each week, especially if I only take two classes so I could request those days off and attend classes then.
I really don't need the money to live on, as I have scholarships and loans covering tuition and living expenses. I am trying to save up money for summer classes and some traveling abroad. I'd earn enough for summer classes and books after only working for a month and earn enough to travel abroad in Europe during the month of August after working for a month and a half more.
The downside: long hours, lots of overtime, and still balancing other classes on top of it.
I had next semester + summer planned already and wanted to take as many credits as possible while my Financial Aid held out, so I would have to pay for perhaps my final semester out of pocket, if necessary. I was planning to take 5 classes during the spring semester, 1 during the three week intersession and 4 classes over the summer, which would allow me to graduate next December....I may not be able to take that intersession class or the summer classes if I take this job, or I might have to track down some online courses to pick up the slack.
What would you do: Try to get the job, and network like crazy + put other classes around it, or just go with my original plan? Chances are, I'm going to need to find some kind of part time job anyway to pay for summer classes and going abroad. Unless I find a scholarship that will take care of them both.
