"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
I recently did a week with uniforms, civilian clothes, and running clothes in a (small) carry-on. Living in the UK and traveling in Europe has made me an expert packer.

I do okay for myself. If it's a trip where I want to look nice, maybe a week? The hairdryer / straightener and my cosmetic / toiletries bags take up space (and omg the shoes), but I'm a master at mix and match clothes.
If I don't really care a heck of a lot what I look like and I can consolidate makeup and leave behind the hair stuff, I can stretch it a lot longer. H and I backpacked across Eastern Europe for 2 weeks with some friends, and I could have really done it indefinitely by using laundromats and replenishing toiletries at pharmacies.
What kind of clothes do you have to take? I'd say two pairs of pajamas, and then clothes should be easy to pack plus running clothes. Try to pack outfits you can wear with the same pair of shoes. If you pack flats, it would be easier to fit into one carry-on. Wear your running shoes on the plane and any of your thicker clothes that you plan to wear. Take basic make-up that can go with anything as well to cut down on what you're taking.
I can't use carry-ons only. I'll never forget the time I tried to put all my liquids into a gallon-sized bag and was told at security I could only use a quart-sized bag. I had to throw half my stuff out. Cry cry cry.
