Most of the conversations I have had during the past several days have revolved around people checking on each other, offering help, and sharing what resources are available. But one conversation stands out. This morning at 8:00 a.m. I heard from EX for the first time since the hurricane struck.
EX: I know the kids are on a delay but I just wanted to make sure that you will be here with them at 6:00 p.m. tonight.
Me: EX . . . . there is no gas.
EX: What do you mean?
Me: There is no gas; I can't get gas for the car.
EX: So you can't bring them down?
Me: I probably have enough gas to bring them down. But I won't have enough to come pick them back up. Do you want me to bring them down and you can keep them until the gas crisis passes?
EX: Oh. No. Never mind.
CLICK!
Did you see in there where he asked if the kids were okay? No? Me neither.

*adds your ex to the list of SO exes who need to be shanked*
Nope - never checked to see if the kids were okay. I get that he doesn't give a crap about me, the house, or my family. But the kids? And his brother is in Staten Island and they got hit HARD. Didn't call him either.
But don't shank him until I have proof of the life insurance policy, please
