We paid $20 for DS' haircut a couple weeks ago. I about fainted at the cost, considering I'm cheap with my haircuts and they come from Groupons for $35 for shampoo, cut, style, and last one had a mani/pedi and color thrown in too (that one was $60).
I haven't cut my DD's hair yet... she has curls and as a curly girl myself I know just how easy it is to butcher a curly kid's hair. I had so many atrocious haircuts before age 10.
I did it myself until DS was 2-ish and he caught on to what I was doing.
Until we moved, DH took him to the neighborhood barber which was MM ($12ish incl tip) but involved lots of screaming and tears and was unpleasant for everyone within earshot.
We found a kid-oriented place near our new house that's $20ish after tip (ugh) but has significantly reduced the stress for all involved b/c he's enamored w/getting to sit in a racecar (and the peer pressure of watching his sister get a cut w/o crying doesn't hurt.)
He looks great afterward. I wish it was cheaper so we could justify going more often...but at $20 a pop, I try to plan cuts around pictures/events, etc.
ETA: DH tried the GreatClips route once since our move and it was awful: he cried the whole time and the haircut was awful...my takeaway was that the stylist just wasn't used to really little kids and it showed. The money saved wasn't worth it in the end and the extra to go to the kid-specific place was worth it in our case b/c we got someone who was unfazed by working on a moving target.

We either take them to Hair Cuttery and pay $12/kid or to the kids place and pay $12 for DS and $6 to have DD's bangs trimmed. They need haircuts about every 8 weeks.
ETA: This is without tip. I usually give a huge tip (50-70%) if DS screamed the entire time, which he usually does. We also get it practically buzzed b/c it looks cute and so we have to go less frequently.
Around $15 now at barber but I used to pay $25-30 (big tip if crying) for a scissor cut with the stylist that cut my hair. DS was petrified of clippers for over a year and my guy was so patient with him. Once we got him eased into clippers DH started taking him to the barber instead. I justified the cost as we had a 30 minute window blocked out so it wasn't rushed and DS loved going there.
Also I cut his hair once and nicked his ear. Man they bleed.
Waiting to get one right now! $20 with tip at a kid oriented place. It seems high, but I like that he doesn't freak out here. MH took him last time and had it cut super short. That cut lasted much longer, if that's an option for you.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
About $20 with, including tip. DD has pretty long hair though and we only need to get it trimmed a couple of times a year to clean up the end and re-layer.
After 4 horrible hair cuts at places that charged $20+, I finally brought her to the woman who has cut my hair for the last 13 years. I was afraid that she would be more expensive. She gave her the only haircut I have been happy with, and only charged me $10.
Her hair is ridiculously fine, and the earlier haircuts all looked like they were done with a weed whacker.
We take DS to the same stylist DH and I use. She charges $20 for a kids' cut and we are happy to pay it. He gets it done less than every other month and it looks *way* better than I ever made it. :z
I just took DD in today for her second haircut. She's 9 months old, and only get a bit taken off of the front and top, so they charge me $12 for a double bang trim and call it good.
