If they are allowed to receive $ gifts, that would be the best. If they are not, I'd go with a gift card to Target or an Amex card and not for a taste specific gift (like a restaurant) unless you know their tastes.

M has 4 teachers. We'll probably do a gift card, but I'm not sure how much.
Man our gift buying list has grown so much since last year. In addition to M we now have 2 nieces & 1 nephew. Plus the 4 daycare teachers....I think the days of only spending $300-$400 on holidays gifts are now a thing of the past.
We've always given $100 each to DDs teachers + every morning for 2-3 days bring some goodies (like bagels from Panera bread, muffins from Dunkin Donuts).
Our preschool limits gifts to $25, so I usually just give Target gift cards of that amount to her main teacher. Last year I also gave the school a big box of patterned socks for all the teachers (they usually don't wear shoes indoors) with a pic of DD and a note that said, "Thanks for letting me keep you on your toes!" While DD has her main teacher, sometimes the other teachers rotate through to help at the beginning/end of each day, so I wanted to thank them all.
He has 4 teachers again so I'll do a $25 Target card then $10 for the pizza place across the street to get lunch one day for each. Last year I had wrapped a Godiva bar (from Kohl's) in white paper and had DS decorate it as a personal gift from him. If it matters it is a $200 a week place.

My SIL works in a daycare and gets a lot of giftcards - starbucks, cupcake stores etc. I think about $25-100 depending on the people (she works in a VHCOL area).

We give my in-home DCP (who has one assistant--her daughter) a week's pay for Christmas, which is $270 since my kids only go to her part time. I give one check with a card for both of them and let DCP split it whichever way she wants with her daughter. I know she splits it b/c daughter thanked us profusely for the gift.
I haven't seen anyone address the nanny side but we are going to give our PT nanny a week's worth of pay as a Christmas bonus (a little under $250).
Is this the usual? Our nanny gets $400 a week. Would we give $400 and pay her for Xmas and boxing day? That is a lot.
I have no real world experience about the nanny thing, but according to this board it is normal. This year is DD's first time in school. I'm hoping we can just donate money to a class gift, but we'll see what the situation is.
