Ok...family member needs money as an xmas present. But, I don't want to give money or a gift card. Is there anything that is like money, but is an object, that we can give? I just want something more fun than boring old money or gc. Is there such a thing?

You could have groceries delivered to their house. Buy stamps for them (if they are old school or aren't able to afford the technology related to paying bills online). That's all I've got.
A friend once got a shoebox with dollar bills (like $25 worth) folded into an origami shape and then there was something small, like a little photo frame, under the bills.
Still money but a little more than just a card with money in it.
Hard to say without knowing what the money is for. I've had family members in the past that were unemployed so cash type gifts were really needed. Instead of doing a generic visa gift card I've done: Gift cards for stores they shopped at for neccessiteis like groceries, gas, etc. Splurges for things they had cut back on and gave gift card to a local restaurant, or a night out at the movies. Made a payment on a utility bill.
If you don't want to do gift cards or cash order meals from Omaha Steaks or some other ready-made meal company.

I think you should just give what she needs - cash or gift cards. I know people don't like to give gift cards, but everyone loves getting them. If she needs money, then I'm sure she will greatly appreciate your gift and she definitely won't think you're not original or fun. Wrap it in a fun way, but assuming you can trust her with cash (like she isn't using it for drugs), I'd go ahead and give what she needs. :-)
