That seems a little pricey to me. My DH and I are going to spend ~5K for the two of us to go to Spain and Italy in June. You have several things that make your trip more $$ - Flights in July to Europe may be more $$ because of the Olympics, I doubt Boise is the cheapest place to leave from, and I am guessing you are going on this trip solo. Our flights from DC are around ~$1200 + a $100 for a flight from Barcelona to Malaga and we leave from Malaga.
I think I've missed something...are you taking the train from Geneva to Chamonix (i.e. you would meet up with your hiking group there, or does the tour meet in Geneva?)
I actually think that price sounds pretty good. I've also checked various rates to Europe from our small midwestern airport and it doesn't seem too far off. I'm actually surprised it's not more. It seems like getting out of the midwest is half of the cost. lol
And speaking of Montana, I'm absolutely floored how much it cost us to fly out there. We paid just over $900/each roundtrip from Louisville to Bozeman (with a layover in Denver.) Ugh. I totally see why people road trip to the national parks.
