How did you find your photographer?

I had one in mind before we got PG, but then I noticed her blog/website hadn't been updated in over a year. I still emailed her today to find out if she's available.

Another one is a friend's rec that friends of her have used, but she's a bit too artsy for me. I'm looking more for casual family photos and newborn, but not a lot of those posed baby photos (you know hanging from a rope like the stork brought them in).

I've googled, but been unimpressed. I sent a distress signal to another friend who may know of a few more.

A friend of Dh's from HS took our first pictures, when DD was 7 months old (and yes, I'm going to AW).



A friend of mine who was starting a photography business took the ones last year. She was free!



Another friend whose DH is an established photographer took our pix yesterday.

I know quite a few through friend's recs, but google led me to the one we are using. She had a reasonable first year package with 3 shoots (newborn, 6 months, 1 yr), all digital images, birth announcement design, and an album at the end that she will design for $1500.

Previously, we got the name of ours from our childbirth educator.

In our area, the local board has a good thread with lots of suggestions, so I'd try that route if you have a local board.

I found our most recent photographer by picking up one of her cards at a local baby/kid shop and checking out her FB page. If you have any specialty baby boutiques nearby keep your eye out: some of them may have business cards or be familiar w/newborn photogs in your area.

Unfortunately my local board is non-existent.

Hopefully the 2 I emailed will get back to me. I'll have to ask about baby boutiques.

I guess I could always send out a FB request to see if anyone has any suggestions.

That's a good idea, too. If you know anyone who has contact w/babies/moms on a regular basis (midwife, OB nurses, teachers) or is a mom (neighbors, etc.) chances are they've run across a photographer or two...I know our NB photographer actually sought out our childbirth educator when she was networking: smart move, b/c otherwise I would've never heard of her!
