I have a gorgeous glass star that works as a topper. I bought it several years back at a little hardware store in my grandparents' town when we were visiting them. I'll try to remember to pull it out and PIP. The only down side is that it's super heavy, so sometimes makes the tree lean a bit.
Garland - I've used a string of silver beads the last couple years. I'm not sure if I want to do that again though.
i use a red tinsel garland and a gold bead garland.
i have a light-up star...i don't love it anymore, and i feel bad because i begged h for over a year for that star
Aw Hurc!
I like that star. It's really hard for us to find a tree topper that we really like. All the angels are girls, and there are no girl angels in the Bible, so we don't really want to go that route. I think we bought this one last year, but I'm not wild about it.
I have a pathetic 3' fake tree, so our topper is an ornament (placed on the top tip branch). My family has always had angels as toppers, so our topper is also an angel. Since the tree is small we don't really do any type of garland.

We do plastic crystals. I love how they help the lights sparkle more. We have a silver metal star/snowflake that sits on top of the tree, but we don't *love* it. We're looking for a better tree topper this year.
no garland and no topper, BUT that's only because H and I can't agree on a topper We're waiting for the right thing that we'll both love and have stopped trying to force it, lol
The majority of our ornaments are blownn glass-styled, and my collection of Swarovski annual snowflakes that MIL gives me each year. It sparkles a lot
We have 5 or 6 strands of crystal garland. I had wanted this forever, and then Smith & Hawken was going out of business. It made me so sad, but at the same time, I was able to snath these up finally at about $10 each instead of the original $30. Look something like this (they're glass/crystal, not acrylic) but better quality, and the links are goldtoned
No tree topper yet. We don't have much space up there and I've been hunting. I found one on Pinterest more than a year ago that I really liked but it was no longer available at PB. This year...its available. I'm guessing they had a lot of hits from Pinterest so realized it was smart to bring it back! I went to look at it in store, but they didn't have it (boo), just the others. I need to see it in person because we don't have much space at the top of our tree so I need to examine if there's some clever way I can affix it near the top but not ON top so it fits. www.potterybarn.com/products/mirror-star-tree-topper/?pkey=e|tree%2Btopper|6|best|0|1|24||2&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-
We don't do garland either but I was just looking at a pic of my tree from last year and it's looking a little sparse despite all the great ornaments we've collected. Maybe I'll try garland this year. I have YET to find a tree topper that i like. Hrumph!
That's why we did it. We have a trillion ornaments and a bunch of lights, but it just didn't look complete until we put that tinsel garland on.

Jennlin, I need to know where you got this star and if you want to sell it to me. Our star is lame and I can't find anything. We need something bigger.

no garland or tinsel for us but our tree is prelit and I put strands of lights on so it is extra sparkly. We have an angel on top. H and I argue about it every year. He's a star guy. I'll get one when the angel bits the dust.
Our topper was my grandparents when they first got married and my dad used to put it on top of the tree As a wee one. I love it. Our ornaments are all gifts from family. This pic is a couple years old but you can see all of it!
sad day, i don't even remember what my tree/decor looks like, it's been so long. i know that h talked me into buying a bunch of super bright colored stuff (sorta like emy's stalkings/tree) but it used to be champagne and light pink. which i loved.. my dad let me pick it out years ago and i always made it beautiful.
we shall see today what it ends up looking like, i'm so excited!
