Smug laidbackness? Its not like they have the kid on top of a moving car. There is literally nothing to fret about in that picture. The oven lights don't even get hot to touch.
This comment sums it up nicely for me "It is funny how new parents can be so nervous to leave their children with the very people who raised them"
Well, I don't necessarily agree with that. While they're okay now, I'm not sure I'd feel 100% comfortable leaving my kid with my mom when she was smack dab in the middle of her crack addiction. My sister and I just got REALLY lucky... Had nothing to do with their abilities as parents. Lol!
Right, but the point was he was comfortable enough initially (and presumably still) to leave the kid with his dad. Obviously not all parents are awesome, but in this case, I'm taking the road that the guy knows his dad is just punking him.
SOME OF US ARE OVERPROTECTIVE OK? And those of you who aren't but aren't parents yet, may become the same way when you have kids. Or not. But if you do, we'll be here to make fun of you.

Well, now I'm curious. How many people who thought it was funny and saw no problem with it are parents? It's not that anyone worried that it was actually dangerous. But it's hard to understand the feelings most parents have about leaving their baby for the first time, even with their own parents, unless you have a kid. Yes, I'm playing the "wait until you're a parent" card. But when you're already anxious and worried, whether it's justified or not, and you get a picture like this? That's not going to make you feel better. Or I dont know, maybe it will and I'm failing at being a laidback parent
Emilie, I fail at it too. The first time, I was crying and calling my mom every 5 minutes. Granted, I was at the hospital, but still, I was convinced my baby was missing me too much and I was flipping out.

I would think it was funny, and my parents would totally do something like this. But I also grew up in a house where my parents did stupid stuff like this all of the time. When I was little, they would cut the power and start banging on the windows when they would come home from a night out and my grandparents were babysitting my brothers and I. We laugh about it to this day, but I am sure we were terrified at the time. So, I am guessing I have some sort of warped sense of humor.

I don't find the photo to be all that amusing but I'm not up in arms about it either. However the "that kid isn't covered in nearly enough gravy" comment made me for real LOL.

your parents are psychopaths.
LOL possibly, but they babysit my kids for free! And obviously if they did this to my children today I'd cut a bitch.

It's not, like, hilarious to me, but I'm not up in arms about it. A quick scan of my fb newsfeed shows babies in baskets, pumpkins and wagons. What's a roasting pan?
ETA: Oh, wait. Was I not supposed to have an opinion on this? Sorry.
Oh please. Of course you can have an opinion. It's just not at all surprising that people who dont have kids are more likely to think it's funny and that there's nothing wrong with it.
That's not funny Mo! what if someone mistook him for a hotdog and ATE him???!!! What if an alien race was searching the planets for a cute dog wrapped in French bread and caused a massive hostile takeover? PoDog!

You clearly don't have pets so you don't really understand!

Well, guess this is just more proof I'm going to be a horrible mom. I would think that was hilarious. I also thought the knife against the parasailing rope pic was a riot.
I think it's awesome in its shock value. I didn't read the article, but I'm guessing the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and so the son posting it is proof that he share his dad's sense of humor?

verdict: funny
Good point, actually. The article really doesn't say what, exactly the baby's father thought of it. It does say, “My first time leaving her, and Dad decides this is the picture to send,” the baby’s father wrote on imgur.com.
And really, that could be taken either way, in my opinion. Like he was pissed, or amused.
