I have been ramping up to get a real grownup job, so it's time to buy a real grownup suit.
Most of the jobs I am applying for are too casual or too artsy to necessitate wearing a suit very often. So I'm looking for a set, or even just a jacket, that is professional enough for a few interviews and classic enough to keep around for a few years.
Burlington's a great suggestion. I would take care to check that yours is in a good area, though, before going. We have 3 here and they are in the hood. And I don't use that term lightly - I mean the drug dealing, mugging, shooting hood. They generally locate stores in less desirable areas because they need such HUGE stores and that's expensive, so they choose somewhere with cheap rents. In other cities, they're located in fine areas and are a really great place to get a suit.
TJ Maxx or Marshall's are good too.
The AT and BR outlets are like my mother ship I pink puffy heart them. Friend the BR outlet on FB for coupons - they'll have one over Thanksgiving. FYI - if you want to outlet shop, go on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving - the malls are deserted, but they all the SAME deals out then that they'll have out on Friday. It's fabulous - my mom and I do it every year - an empty mall, Christmas music, huge discounts, and everything's available.
Most of my suit pieces are from the BR Factory store, regular BR, JCrew, LOFT, Target occasionally, and Forever 21. I actually LOVE Forever 21's blazers.
And this one:http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=outerwear_blazers&ProductID=2021840797&VariantID=
Since I'm short, I have the sleeves tailored. Looking at the website, the photos don't do them justice. You really have to visit the store, though.
Most of my "staple" blazers are wool from JCrew and BR because I really like the quality. I expect to have the wool ones for a long time. But the cheaper F21 ones are fun, bright, and I don't feel guilty giving them to Goodwill when I'm done with them. I never had good luck buying suit sets - the sizing was off because I'm bigger on top than on the bottom.
