entry in split level house?

For those of you who live in a split level house, what do you have in your entry way, if anything? We have french doors so there isn't a ton of room (maybe 6 inches to the wall on either side of the door) but it's so boring when you first walk in. Eventually we would like to replace the door with just a single, but we have so much other stuff on our list to get to first.

We have nothing in our entry way, but that's because there is NO space. The door swings in and it is really hard to move around it when people come over. That's the only part of my house that annoys me, it is very awkward having people come in.
