I used to go about ten years ago. I found them very helpful at the time. They were women who had all sorts of issues with food, it was not just like people who eat too much (which is what I was afraid of before I went). The group I went was significantly older than I was at the time, though, so that was a little uncomfortable, but after anew sessions, I didn't even notice.
I've been to a few meetings. I didn't find it helpful, mainly because we read aloud from an AA book the entire time. I think if they conducted it as an actual meeting, with people sharing stories, struggles etc. I may have kept on going.

OP, good luck! I hope it goes well and you get something good out of this. But even if the first time doesn't quite seem like your thing, give it another chance. Sometimes in those sort of settings it takes a few tries to really decide if you belong or not.
