Have I missed the memo on avocados for babies? Bananas and apple sauce and sweet potatoes, I know about. It would never occur to me to give him an avocado. FWIW, I could harm myself on guac/avocados. OM NOM NOM. :Y:
Is this a recent addition to the approved foods for 1st time 'foods'?
I know some websites say avocado is a great first food (but to hold off on the guacamole). We had plans to go with it but ended up with a banana bc we had one at home lol.
As you begin to introduce a wide variety of foods, you will find that mashing an avocado and mixing with applesauce, peaches or pears, bananas and even yogurt make a wonderful meal or snack.
much better than pureed baby foods. Some of those smell horrendous!
it was DS' first food. he didn't like it at first, but grew to really like it mixed in with other things and when chopped and covered in cheerio crumbs.
DD1 got it mixed into everything because she needed the calories. It was a couple years before she could stomach eating it again, but now loves it. DD2 eats guac by the spoonful (seriously sits down with a bowl of guac and a spoon), but won't eat it plain. It's considered a super food for babies.
DS like it then. Then he suddenly stopped eating it and handing it back to me. Oh well. He might come around again some day. I hope so because its annoying to not like it with the amount of mexican food we eat.
Ok so quick question. I tried to google this and got all sorts of recipes. If you do BLW and want to offer avocado, do you just mash it up and put it in a little pile in front of them and expect them to pick it up and put it in their mouths? When did you first do this and how did it work out?

Same here. Both my kids would eat it as babies but act totally disgusted by it now. Which is annoying in light of the fact that DH and I eat guac or some other form of avocado multiple times a week. Oh well.
We fed it mashed up off our fork at dinner one night first. Then when we wanted to let him feed himself, I just cut it into chunks. It is kind of tricky because it's slimy and hard to hold on to.

We did BLW at 6 months and avocado was his first food. I picked one that wasn't too ripe (yielded to gentle pressure when squeezed) and cut it into strips. He picked up the strip and bit the other end. 3 months later he still loves it. It's my go-to food if what we're eating isn't appropriate for him (like pizza).
