So, once the holidays are over and everyone's checkbooks are balanced what is your next big house purchase? Anything you have been eyeing for a while? Is it a remodelling project? Maybe a piece of furniture or an appliance?
My answer: The house will be ready in Feb/Mar so we will have to get a fridge and blinds out of necessity. In addition to this I really want a sectional for the family room. We are using our current furniture in the formal living room and will need something else to take its place and a nice cozy sectional really appeals to me.

LOL. A house, actually. We've got to get through this year's taxes (with the house sale, they're bound to be a mess, financially), then it's on to the downpayment. We'll be TTC as of April, so it's definitely something that we'll need to get on top of ASAP.

We have been saving up in order to take advantage of the Black Friday deals for a new Dyson, surround sound and new iPad. After the holidays are over, we are planning on tackling a mini bathroom makeover (new tile and paint only). As excited as I am for the new purchases, it will be sad to see our savings dip a bit. *We can afford it, I just have a tough time spending $
The last big big thing to pay for with this reno is the glass shower enclosure. Depending on how much that runs us we might be putting it off for a little while while we rebuild savings since we're coming down to the wire on our overall budget. Which will be interesting with the new baby in there...not sure how much spare change we'll have laying around.
We might put up a temporary curtain somehow so we can get through an appraisal and refinance - that should free up some money each month.
After that - I think we'll be back in hardcore savings mode with a race between the driveway/shed/landscaping situation and the kitchen.
And somewhere in there we really kinda need a new couch. And new bedroom furniture.
So...yup, lots of saving and then spending it all.
After the holidays and our trip to the Dominican Republic in January we are saving for our Ikea kitchen cabinets to go in our basement kitchenette. It will be the final project for the basement remodel.

We are actually in crazy spending mode getting the house ready to list in March.
The whole thing is stressing me out so much that I can't think about it. (Saving grace is that home sales in our neighborhood are good, so it's more of a matter of how much we will make on the sale not if it will sell. I want my sweat equity! Although, now that I write that, watch our house be some crazy fluke that sits on the market.)
After it sells we are going into complete savings mode.
We are saving for a new deck. Unfortunately, the existing deck is falling apart and it will become a safety issue before too long. After that the next big project will be refinishing the basement but that won't be for a few years.
DH and I were just talking about needing a new front door. And we need to get rid of the deck. We'll probably put a patio in it's place. ETA: And new bedding, toss pillows, and a headboard. I want a pretty bedroom damnit!

Just HOUSE savings / project list:
1. Deck - about $10k 2. New siding 3. Insulation in exterior walls 4. Electrical updates on the other half of the house 5. Remodel Master Bath 6. Additional Bathroom in basement 7. Turn storage room into guest room (needs egress window, studs, insulation, drywall, ceiling, floor)
And of course that doesn't include the landscaping we would want to do either...
Paying for a house in cash. Don't know when that move will happen, but we want to be ready for it when the job opens up in the area we want to move to.
Kitchen remodel. I am literally putting 5 and 10 dollar bills into a jar. Dh is such a spender he is always depleting our savings account as soon as I get it built up. I have my own separate savings account now and I use the jar. When the jar is full I deposit it. I won't be able to pay for the whole Reno but I hope to pay for half with cash
On my short term list for next year: 1)sofa and plantation shutters for my living room (currently empty) 2) floor leveling, new carpet and a love seat for my family room
In my long term list (which I guess we'll start saving for in about 6 months when our E fund is back to 6 months of expenses) 1) new kitchen! 2) exterior work/landscaping 3) master bath reno

Ikea Ektorp Sectional
It's not super-pricey, but we don't need it. I just REALLY want it. We have the Ektorp loveseat and I'd like to move it to our unfinished basement and make the basement a play area for the kids and a place for my H to have poker night. I also think his Frasier chair would look lovely down there and outta the living room
we just bought a new house so I have a lot on my to do/ in the process of being done list. After the things we're doing now are finished and that money is spent the next thing I am saving for is an all weather wicker sectional for the screen porch and a (probably leather) sectional for the family room, and dining room furniture though I still can't seem to find what I want for there anyway
New kitchen to replace some PO's terrible remodel. The new roof I have to pay for next month knocks out half my house savings, but after that, I think it's smooth sailing for kitchen savings. Then I hope to never do another major house project again Just seasonal decorating and fresh paint for me. We've redone almost all the major services for the house (wiring, plumbing, etc.) after the roof, so I hope we're good to go for many, many years.
House wise: A sunroom. A really nice one with real windows, tile and a fireplace. My basement needs builtins and cabinets for a bar area.
On the small scale, it's time to repaint some rooms. The pros will be doing. Painters are relatively cheap here so it's a just matter of scheduling when I want my house all tore apart again.
It might be awhile. The farm needs a ton of stuff/upgrades first.
Our basement will finally be finished this week, so next year I think our big project will be wood floors on the main floor! We pretty much have the money saved already, it's just a matter of prioritizing projects.

A house! I posted this over on CFT but hubby and I have found a renter for our condo and will be buying a new house shortly. The renters are moving in Dec 1 and we're staying with my parents through the holidays and until we put in an offer/find a house. Exciting!

We're still trying to find a house. Really, we're still trying to reach an agreement with the bank on the price of the house. Also looking for an alternate house, and kicking ourselves for letting a really nice one get away a month or so ago. After we close, if we have any money left over, then we can start prioritizing projects.
Aside from a couple vacations, which we've already saved up for since they were supposed to have already happened, I have a long list of other things I want, but most of them we won't have space for until we get a house...
Haha, This! We are going to be selling our first home this summer (kinda sad) and I will definitely need a Roomba to keep our hardwood floors clean of dog hair during this time!
And also...a new house! We are planning to start construction this coming spring! Tonight we are actually meeting with a builder to discuss floor plans! Eeek!!!
A new furance. We currently have fuel iol and want to convert to natural gas (we will have to pay to have the gas hooked up too. Currently don't have it running to the house.
What aren't we saving for would be a better question I guess
We have SO much house stuff to do...Siding, Windows, Roof, Garage door, Insulation (attic and exterior walls), Electrical Panel replacement, renovate downstairs bathroom, kitchen, replace 1st floor and stair carpeting :-P I feel like this is going to be big $$$$$
I am replenishing my savings after this $$$ house project and down payment. :-(
But, specifically, a new car (mine has 160K miles and I'm not sure if I can get a car seat in and out on a daily basis without further injuring my back), and some furnishings, curtains, etc for the new house.
