I have an interview tonight for a seasonal position at a retail store for a sales associate position. It's been a long time since I have done one of these, what is appropriate attire? A suit feels too formal...maybe a shift dress and blazer...would that be ok? Thanks all!
I think it depends on the retail store. Ann Taylor or something like it- I would wear a dress and maybe a blazer. F21 or something in this realm- I would wear a pair of black pants and a cute top.
Business casual, or what you mentioned, should be more than fine - and yes, I think the type of store makes a small difference. If it's a more fashion-forward store, I might lean more toward something a big edgier in keeping with the tone of the store (like accessories).
GL. What store if you don't mind sharing? Somewhere good with a great discount?!
ETA - I will add that when I dressed more professionally for a sales associate job, I was asked to be a key/shift lead instead. My manager said it was because I came dressed more professional than a nice pair of jeans and a cute top. She could tell that I'd go the extra mile.
Thanks for the input everyone! I ended up with some slacks and a button up under a sweater (it's chilly today!) I think I did just fine, they are running a background check then I'm good And there are definitely old lady shoes (think big shoe warehouse)
