So very NOT $$MM: If IMAX is available, DH and I always choose this option. There are 2 within resonable driving distance for us, so we often see movies in IMAX. Regal also offers their "RPX experience" which is kinda an IMAXlite version.
No movie is worth going to see for us lol. We wait until it comes out on DVD. We have a projector so it's better than the theater IMO haha. We're huge James Bond fan so we'll probably buy this one since we have the others.

We saw Skyfall in the regular movie theater and I thought it was great. I won't pay to see IMAX unless the movie is specifically filmed with 3D cameras such as with Avatar. When we saw Harry Potter with IMAX it was actually hurting my eyes and most of the time the movie was not in 3D anyway, only small portions were.
I may not be enough of a movie theater buff to answer this right, but I wouldn't do it. We saw it last night and there definitely are some striking scenes but nothing that would compel me to go for IMAX.
Great movie however, Skyfall was not shot with IMAX cameras or with HD cameras. Roger Deakins used the Arri Alexa digital cinema camera in RAW image mode to provide the highest possible resolution and dynamic range (the number of exposure stops the camera can reproduce.
So you are getting a little more panorama but imho not worth the extra cost.
