A post on ML reminded me that I was planning on sharing....
Condoms (latex) give me a yeast infection. Fooled around with Giant on Tuesday and by Thursday/Friday things were no bueno. Saw my gyno yesterday and she confirmed.
We're going to try some alternative (sheepskin) but are both counting down the days.

I'll tell you from experience, if he's large enough to use magnum condoms, no one makes magnum condoms in non latex. Durex was the largest and were still uncomfortable for my then BF.
Were they the spermicide kind? Many times it can be the spermidice that will cause irritation or yeast infections, I would try plain latex without spermicide before switching to sheepskin.
I used a type that isn't sheepskin or latex. Latex does bad things to me as well. They are called Skyn. And ditto on the spermicide. And flavored lubes. It's the KISS philosophy of sex product ingredients, all the way.

Good to know. This was a concern for Giant, that it's either going to irritate him or me.

We have used Trojan Bareskin Supra Polyurethane for over 8 years at this point. Never an issue. They stretch well too. If you can't find something before your mirena, switch to oral or anal then.

I have this problem too. Have you tried non-spermicide versions, like a PP asked?
In addition, do you have an actual latex allergy, or do the condoms just tend to throw things off? If it is the later, ask your GYN to write you a script for boric acid capsules. A compounding pharmacy can make them. One inserted overnight after you have sex should keep a YI at bay. I had recurring infections for over a year until I had a new GYN recommend this method. It works great.
I'm not sure if it's latex or just overall condoms. I honestly don't have much experience in this area. I've been wrecking my brain for the last 2 days trying to remember if condoms in the past created this issue. I do remember that they cause irritation and that's why I hate them.
HouseGeek, I haven't used condoms in a really long time. And I don't want to try a bunch of brands and continually get yeast infections. I'd rather a) go without sex for 3 weeks, b) oral only c) pull and pray for 3 more weeks. (I'm kidding on the last one.)

i would certainly not be putting something up my bum just because i had to wait a couple weeks LOL
Put vitamin c up your bag! (sorry-seemed relevant!)
Also, what are you doing immediately after sex? Getting up to pee, cleaning up? Totally gross, but it could be that the spermicide is sitting there in your bag until you wash, causing the nasty conditions.

KISS? Like the band or something else?
KISS philosophy stands for "Keep it simple, stupid" although I wasn't calling you stupid of course. I just meant, minimal products in the vag.
Whoa, wait. I haven't put any vitamin c in my bag. I'm still not sure how I feel about that.
StJess, yes, I clean up afterwards, pee and all that jazz. I've been sexually active for about a decade; I know what I'm doing. I just don't have enough experience with condoms to really determine the exact cause. It was a lubeless, latex, Trojan so I'm (and my gyno) are leaning towards a latex allergy.
