I have a prescription for acne medication. It's expensive but I have coupon card that makes it only $25. I don't take it every day, only when I start breaking out. I last saw my dermatologist 6 months ago.
When I do refill the script, I do so at Walgreens.
Anyway, in Sept, I received 3 months worth of the drug in a large bottle from Medco. They billed me the full price of the drug (obviously not letting me use my coupon).
I called them and they said my doctor faxed in a 3-month script. This was weird since I had not spoken to him. So I called the doctors office and they said they did not do it. I called Medco again, and they have the fax - it's actually from the nurse, not the doctor.
I called my doctor's office a few more times and they finally acknowledged it - but said they did not know why the fax went out. They said that there was nothing they could do about it. They said they wont credit me for the bill.
I called Medco and they said it doesn't matter if the doctor made a mistake, I received the medicine and thus I must receive the bill. They do not accept returns even if the bottle is unopened.
WTF, right?
Now, the nice thing is I reached the deductible on my insurance so even though the medicine is expensive, 90% was covered. Medco really screwed themselves because when I was using my coupon, they didn't pay anything. I just want to pay it - it's $75 more than I would have paid with the coupon for 3 months.
My husband is pissed at the whole situation / lack of resolve and does not want to pay it.
It does seem whack that I receive medication that I never requested without any option to return it. What if I had not reached my deductible? What if it was a medicine I could not even use??
I'd probably just pay it because it sounds like you've called the doctor and the drug company several times already to no avail. But I'd probably switch doctors and write them a crappy review.
