Since it's talk about hypothetical money week here on MM, I thought I'd post as well.
I'm getting a small portion of my grandfather's windfall settlement sometime this month. I'm going back and forth (I decided to ask for sheets, new running shoes for Xmas/birthday) on what to do with it. It's a minuscule amount compared to other posts - $1000-2000. I know, I know, big spender over here.
Some facts - I have no CC debt, car loan is being refinanced in the spring, and SLs. I contribute 5% to my 401K (I changed it from 10% once insurance kicked in. That crap is EXPENSIVE), and add $100+ to savings each month, and another $100 for my relocation fund.
So what say MM? How shall I spend my $1000-2000 from my grandfather? I want to do something in his honor/memory as well. He was my biggest cheerleader and even on his deathbed was asking me about graduation/San Diego.
That's what I'm thinking. My grandpa was all for me getting out of the state and starting my career. It might even help me get out sooner.
V - I get a 3% match so I'm contributing 3% to my 401K and 2% to the Roth portion. Also, like I said, I want to do something to honor him. Putting it into retirement doesn't feel like honoring him. It feels wrong considering he had to die of cancer in order for me to get this money.
