ETA: because my tylenol has worn off and damn headache is still there and now it's been like 29 hours. I'm considering going getting starbucks (I almost never drink coffee) for the caffeine. Anything to make this go away.
I am OVER OVER OVER this. I've had a migraine since noon yesterday. I've taken acetominophen and the pain is mostly gone, and now I'm just sitting here feeling all pissed off about EVERYTHING even though there's nothing to feel pissed about. My hormones are srsly out of whack since I had to unexpectedly stop birth control pills after my stroke in August. Due to the full strength aspirin I take daily for the same reason, I can't take just any painkiller. My period isn't predictable anymore and I'm sitting here waiting for it to show up and hoping this is why I have this in the first place.
Ask for Norco. I am also on aspirin therapy and only able to take Tylenol. I may as well take skittles since Tylenol does nothing for any pain or headache. My Doctor gave me a prescription for Norco and it actually helps. Norco is Tylenol with an added pain reliever so hoping you would be able to take it. Good luck.
Nine days and I begged the doctor to knock me out. It turned out that it was an eye issue. I had gotten new contacts. The prescription on the box did not match the contacts inside. Once I got the correct prescription, the migraine disappeared Of course then I had new headaches with the lawsuit and recall.
If I had to go a month, I would have started hurting people.

I get hormonal migraines, too. They do suck! Ask your doctor about esgic. It is tylenol, caffeine, and a barbituate. It works wonders for me. I take it and sleep the pain off.
One month. It was awful. I ended up getting a prescription for something (drawing a blank on the name).
Yup. I had a migraine from about 15 to 19 weeks with my last pregnancy. It was so, so, so bad and all I could take was Tylenol with codeine, but it put me to sleep so I could only have it at night, regular Tylenol during the day.
I am fortunate in that I can still basically function during a migraine, I'm not throwing up in a dark room all day, but it was horrible, horrible, horrible. If it happens again this time I will just die.

i had one non-stop for a week when pg with my older son... tried everything i could (different rx meds, even a massage - nothing worked).
I have gone through periods with almost daily migraines - have suffered them since puberty. My mom, sister, brother and niece all get them, too. NOT fun.
talk to your doctor - not sure what you can take but tylenol does squat for a migraine. You need something that will constrict your blood vessles - since a migraine is caused when they expand (hence, caffiene being in Excedrine- it's a vasoconstricor).
Put an ice pack on your head - in the spot that hurts, on the back of your neck/head (even when the pain isn't there often it will help the pain up front).... have caffiene... and if you are allowed Advil/ibuprofen or Aleve/Naproxen - those will work best b/c they are anti-inflammatory (will help constrict).
If the reason you are limited on meds is b/c of ulcer scares - you can take a prevacid OTC with the meds (i used to sell prevacid for NSAID associated ulcer prevention)... though I'm guessing there are other reasons you need to restrict?
feel better. It's NOT fun- but really - call your doc - you might even be able to take a Triptan (like imitrex, relpax, etc) which is the best for migraines.

I've had a migraine last a week. My mom is going on two weeks right now. They are absolutely terrible. Often times caffeine and sugar will help, but not get rid of it (for me at least). If it lasts much longer and you've never talked to your doctor about this before I would definitely speak with your doc.
I have a coworker that gets them so often and so bad, she has started getting botox shots in the back of her head. Apparently it works out pretty well. She's tried absolutely everything.
I can't imagine being in that kind of pain for that long. I am dealing with some fierce tension headaches right now and those make me want to cry. I'd probably off myself if it was migraine strength.

I'm a lurker, but as a 25 year migraine sufferer, the longest I have had one is 6 weeks. They are miserable. I don't think that they will give you a Triptan since you have had a stroke, but benedryl taken with the tylenol will help. The last time I went to the hospital for one the dr. gave me a "cocktail" of nubain, benedryl, and a nausea med. He told me that benedryl is one of the most safe drugs to take. I still take one with pain meds, otc or otherwise. I now get the Botox shots, but still get migraines. I can just get a handle on them faster.
OMG the rest of these stories make me want to cry. Pain has finally gone away after about 30 hours.
GailGoldie, I had an ulcer 20 years ago when I was in high school. I've been on the aspirin (full strength not baby aspririn) daily for 11 weeks, and I can tell my stomach is not happy.
My dr. did eventually call me back and said I could take anything we had, as long as it was just ocassional. I'm being extra cautious because I don't want to make my stomach issues worse if I don't have to. Yeah, I had a stroke caused by a blood clot, so a triptan is out for me (although my cousin had a hemmhoragic stroke, completely opposite kind of mine, and she takes them).
God help me if this starts becoming a monthly thing.
A few days, maybe 3-4, before I've gone to Urgent Care. Even the terrible ones usually don't last longer than 2 days, but then I may get rebound headaches (not necessarily full migraines) after especially bad episodes. Caffeine, lots of water, dark room, cold pack on my head/ back of my neck, pressure points in my head and hands, absolute silence and abortive meds (immitrex for me) at the first sign make all the difference between a crappy hour and a few miserable days. I'm now on daily preventative meds because I was getting debilitating migraines more than once a week, occasionally holing myself up in my boss's office until I can get a hold on things.

Thankfully, mine don't last that long. I have Ocular migraines though, so even though mine don't last as long, they effect my vision, so its very scary...
DH has gone to the ER for them and they actually gave him a shot of Benadryl.
Thankfully the only mograine I ever had only lasted about 4 hours. Tylenol actually did help, but anymore I monthly have headaches that require Excederine and/or Benadryl.
5 days before i broke down and went to the doctor. nothing OTC works on mine...actually for most migraines OTC stuff can make them worse. the triptans work best for me, i have something different now (they hardly work at all) and topamax to take daily to prevent them but when i get them they are bad. if i don't take something right away, i will have them for days and have to take my Rx 2 x per day for days.
I've had them so bad I have had to stay in cold dark rooms for days and i was still throwing up every time i moved. eventually i break down and head to the doctor.
