Do people think you work at the stores you shop? I swear, this happens way too often for me.
The last time I was at Target, I was loitering in the Dollar Spot waiting for someone. And this lady looks at me and asks me "do you know if you have any autumn themed sprinkles that aren't halloween?" I did that whole look over your shoulder thing and realized she was talking to me and looked at her with a puzzled look on her face and said "no?" She got this look on her face like I was being purposely obtuse on the clock and she said "no, you don't have them or no, you don't know?" and I said "I don't know?"
I was wearing blue. Not red. No khakis. I didn't have a nametag on. I was wearing my purse.
It happened at the grocery store this morning and it was a little old man shuffling behind his cart asking me, in the midst of the remodel, where the Gatorade was. At least I knew the answer to this question but I'm going to have to stop shopping there if I'm working for free, Dillons.
That has happened but not often. I do get nervous if I realize I have worn red to target though. Of course I know where everything is so I could certainly help someone with that, but it would be a little awkward.
Yeah, it's happened to me too. Though to be honest, in stores I know really well, if I overhear someone ask an actual employee where something is, and the employee doesn't know (ahem, Target!), I'll take it upon myself to steer them in the right direction.

Okay good. It happened at Wal-Mart too once. I must just put off a "I am in this store too much" vibe. I'm surprised I haven't been asked that question at JoAnn's or Michael's before too.

That happens to me sometimes. I got yelled at (literally, the guy was screaming) once in Home Depot for not knowing where something was. Ahem, do you SEE an orange apron? No? Well then, go eff yourself.

I do that too. It actually annoys me that I know the store better than the employees, and I don't even shop that often.
And I get asked questions in almost every store that I go to, whether I am wearing anything similar to the appropriate employee outfit or not. People also think that I am 'a local' and not a tourist, when I am a tourist in a touristy place, so I don't know what that's all about...must be related.
This often happens at places like to Container Store or a clothing store where I know their inventory inside and out and I'm like "oh yes! Aisle 4, right side, half way up!"
