I just had an interview for a position that I think I may want. I sent in my resume on a whim on Monday and they contacted me that same day for an interview.
Anyway, in the interview, they asked me what I learned from my previous position and I answered by way of "this is how it went there, this is what I would do now...", explaining how a particular issue was (not) dealt with at my old job. I know you're not supposed to bad-mouth a previous position or job, but what are the options, really, when you're asked a question like that, or asked why you left your old job? Would you consider answering a question as I did, a big deal?
Also, if they tell you at the initial interview that there might be more interviews and that the boss will contact me by next Tuesday, is that a good sign or a "we have to tell you this" kinda thing?
I think I would have focused more on the skills I learned at my previous position that would make me an asset to the job I'm applying for. I might wonder why you chose to say what was wrong at your old job instead of focusing on what you could do for me/me company. When asked why I left a job, I focus on things like it not being a good fit for me, wanting to gain more experience, or limited opportunities for advancement.

I wouldn't read anything into their statement.
Okay, so I might have messed that bit up. Hope not, but you never know, I guess. I think I brought it up (gently, with limited information, just so you know) because I went with the "this is what was wrong there, this is what I learned from it and how I'd change it next time" way of thinking, and to me, with that format, you kinda have to state to some extent what went wrong before. But I see what you're saying. Oh well - live and learn.
