The first house we had an offer in on it took no less than 60 hours for a response from the other party. The husband was the decision maker and he lived in California and the wife and kids were still here in Virginia so they had to both get on the phone and discuss things and then fax papers back and forth. It took forever.
Ugh, we ran into this. One instance the guy was trying to create a bidding war, which worked and we were one of five offers. That didn't go well for us. The second was the house that is now ours. There we eight showings the first day it came on the market but they didn't have the disclosure yet. We said F that, and put in our offer contingent on review of the disclosure. That made it so we were only one of two offers instead of one of five but I know there would have been more if we hadn't jumped on it.
