Wawa I thought of you when I saw this. When I was a kid I loved legos and k'nex even though they were geared toward boys. My favorite was the big pirate ship lego set where I would feed my sister's Barbie heads to the lego sharks. LOL
[On to the relevant] However, I had already bought a Melissa & Dug train stacker, wooden trains and a 100-piece Melissa & Doug wood block construction set. Both sexes like to play with those toys!
I don't know when they started, but both Lego and Mega Blocks make sets geared towards girls now. Lots of pink and purple, ponies and tree houses...
though my daughter, like you, still loves the pirate ship. I plan on getting her a set or two for Christmas because she also loves to build and completely wrecks whatever my son puts together.
I heard about that! It was posted over to CEP. I thought it was pretty cool. Of course it being CEP its merits got debated to death...but such is the way of the politics board.
I LOVE that treehouse lego set PIPed above though. Seriously...it's like a lego of me. Purple everything living in a tree? Sign me right the hell up. I've nagged the crap out of MH about building a treehouse. I want one so badly. Ummm...for the kids of course. totally for the kids. Not at all for me to occasionally hide out in with a book and a thermos of hot chocolate. NOPE.
Unfortunately none of the trees in our backyard are really suited for treehouseitude without damaging them too much. I think a particularly epic play structure of some sort is probably in our future though. Probably with a zip line. Might as well make use of the ridiculous grade change back there, right?
Yeah it's cool that they make girl legos now but a lot of the boy ones still seem more fun to me. Fact: I hated the color pink when I was a kid. Hated.
I always wanted a tree house too Wawa. My dad built us a pretty sweet cedar play set though.

Me too! I refused to wear it. Purple I was down with (it's still one of my favorite colors) but I did.not.do PINK. And then in college my roommate convinced me to try on a pink sweater and I realized that it's actually a great color for me. Oh.
I didn't have a tree house exactly - I had some hunters old treestand that I claimed as my own. It was a dead tree that had fallen against another tree, and the fork of the dead tree had jammed perfectly against the live tree just above a big branch. Some guy had nailed boards to the dead tree for steps, and where the two trees came together the fork of the dead one made a perfect seat with the live one for a backrest. I rigged a pully system so I could get books and snacks up there without having to carry a backpack since getting the backpack off at the top was really awkard.
I almost fell out more times than my mother would like to know about I'm sure. But I never did.
And then one day I came home from school and it was gone. Apparently it straddled our property line and when the neighbors realized I was climbing up there all the time they cut it down.

Congrats. Little boys are great. Of course, little girls are great too. I have 1- DS and 2-DDs. We bought a mega blocks set for DS's first birthday. He loved it and now DD1 plays with it at least a few days a week. They play with them differently, but they both play with them. He is more into making fortresses for his super heroes while she will make a farm to hold her animals or a houes for cinderella, but it is a universal toy.

Yup purple was OK but light blue was and still is my favorite color. I tried to wear either or both of those colors everyday. Hmm...an early sign that I would be very particular about my paint colors I guess.
Yeah now I wear pink all the time because it goes perfectly with my skin tone. I actually wear a lot of girly colors now in because at any given point up to 90% of my co-workers will be wearing light blue button down shirts so I mix it up with my pink and lavender button downs. Yes not fashion forward at all but it's all about fitting in while still looking like a female around here.
