I'm about 2 hours away from each of these places (provided you mean Vancouver, WA). These are both great places, but looking out my window right now, I'd say save a trip here for late July. It's beautiful that time of the year. Or late September for the fall colors before it gets gray.
No, dude, no one ever means Vancouver, WA when they say Vancouver. I bet most people (outside of WA/OR) don't even know there's a Vancouver, WA.
Dr Smock is very wise. We're thinking June for the trip.

yeah, I was having a blonde moment. Too many years of dying my hair.
Regardless, a trip to this area is best planned for late summer, early fall.
This is more fun if money is taken out of the equation, isn't it?
Yes it is!
I loved Santa Barbara, CA.
Oahu was fantastic.
St. Augustine, FL is on my short list of all time favorite places. My ILs rent a condo there for a month each year and we head down there. Sooooo much to do. We've gone twice now, and we still haven't seen probably half of it!

I would go somewhere short-flight distance from the northeast that I have never been and that has some at least faint possibility of being a place I'd retire to, so it would have to be somewhere somewhat warm most of the time ... or at least not northeast. So, in no particular order: Atlanta; Chapel Hill; Myrtle Beach; Baltimore.
We're starting to look at colleges for my older son and he's hellbent on staying in New England, but I want him to check out colleges in warm climates so I can check out these cities, too. Boo for teenagers having minds of their own.
