Ah, not expensive. That's hard Rejuvenation is my favorite, but it's easy to spend a fortune there. Do you have any salvage yards near you? We have a few, but they are really pricey. We do have an antique lighting store, where they re-wire old fixtures, and it's actually not that bad compared to buying new. Also maybe www.schoolhouseelectric.com?
Do you have a pic of something you like? Maybe I or someone here could help you find a good knockoff or something really close?
I think schoolhouse fixtures were a popular utilitarian choice then. You can get a really super simple and cheap flush mount fixture and find a nice schoolhouse shade just about anywhere.
We also used this place for our bedroom lighting: www.scalighting.com/type_result.php?type=Pendant. They make everything in SoCal (at least they did when we bought), which I like to support. But it might be too mission/A&C for you.
Schoolhouse electric isn't just schoolhouse, so maybe you can find something you like. Also look at rejuvenation to see if you find what you like. Once you know what you want, it's easier to look for something similar I think. What's the barrier to getting a schoolhouse in the kitchen? We're doing that also in our kitchen, even though it's a bit late for our place. I'm not putting a bare bulb in my kitchen though, so it'll just have to do
I really like something like this but H laughed at me. Basically the flush mouth with the 4 hangy light things.
Our kitchen. Well the stove is in front of a window, the sink is in front of a peek through to a family room addition, there's no logical place for a pendant. I guess we could put one over the stove but that seems weird.
Nice! Does he hate the whole fixture, or just something about this one (for instance, you get to pick your finish there; it doesn't have to come in tarnished copper, if that's what that is supposed to be)?
He LOLed at the first one because it's gold. I think a tarnished bronze or something would look nice to go w/ our door knob metal (knobs are actually clear glass, but there's a bronze colored plate behind it)
