I actually really like the outside of the first one, along with its bones. It would obviously need to be decorated, but it would be fun to do (until I had to peel off all that wallpaper)!
The second house has a bad bathroom. And too much wallpaper. But I can't believe the whole, "Just get a new build for $200K." Those homes are historic and beautiful and of solid craftsmanship. That's why they cost so much more than a $200K mullet house.
Exactly. I could have spent a few grand more for a brand new home, but my new house (okay, 1963 isn't historic -- yet) will have the original hardwoods. And I'm pretty sure the light and mirror in the master bathroom is original too.

That first house is beautiful! I agree with sbp, get rid of the wallpaper and some of the nasty carpet, repaint and the place could look amazing! Not even comparable to a new build.
