Has anyone switched jobs while they were building or buying a home? I hope someone can give me some info because this is making me a little nervous but I don't want to call our mortgage guy until I get more details about the job. DH just got a call yesterday from a local hospital offering him a job that he didn't even apply for. He is meeting with the CEO Monday morning to talk details but we are hopeful that this would be a good career move. The person that recommended DH told the CEO that he will only take the job if the salary is 20% more than he makes now. That would be AMAZING. ;D Anyway, everything seems like it would be perfect since this is DH's ideal career track and the money is good, but we are currently smack dab in the middle of having our house built. We will be done in 12-16 weeks and I don't know what this will do to our mortgage. The job is in the same field, the salary is higher, and we have great credit (both of us are 800+). So, what do you think? I would still give us a mortgage but I am not a bank and I don't know what they will think.
I had talked to my mortgage guy about it because it was a possibility for us. I *think* you're fine as long as there is no gap in employment and he's not on a probationary period at the new job when he starts.
I've always been told it's fine as long as it is in the same line of work and the income is the same/higher. Check with your mortgage company, obviously, but this happens fairly often.
My guess is that you're fine, but as suggested, check into it. I was laid off in the middle of building a house, and of course I freaked out. Surprisingly, the bank didn't even care. We had no problem closing.
Thanks you guys. I hope things work out both for the job and for the mortgage. Dh will meet with the CEO first thing Monday morning and get a better idea of the job. He has no desire to move if the job is not a step up. If we find out that this is something he wants to do I will call my mortgage guy right away.
Good luck!!! We relocated for H's new job and bought a house in the new city at the same time last year. It wasn't a problem - sounds like yours shouldn't be either.

I changed jobs right after we went under contract. It was no problem, I just had to send a copy of my first few paychecks to the mortgage company. I had the same job title at each company, so that helped.
