Ok, so she said she doesn't care about the cost of makeup and hair and I could just recommend a place I knew was good. She's coming like a week and a half before, should I try to get her a trial before? Although she doesn't seem like the type to be nervous about that. She did also mention in the email that it would be nice to have someone familiar with asian hair and skin - is it awkward to ask about that when I book it? Does someone here know more about what specifically might be helpful? thanks!
oh is she asian? hah. we have all sortsa issues when it comes to makeup. i *would* recommend my makeup artist, who specialized in asian makeup...she was a beauty queen, did all the asian pageants makeup........but she cancelled on me two days before my wedding. so, no. i'm not recc'ing her.
tygirljojo looked AWESOME on her wedding..but i don't think she had an asian-special-makeup artist. but she's also mixed...i think half? so she doesn't have the regular problems asian girls do with makeup (eyes). i can ask a few friends who they used for their wedding. ask her if she "has eyelids".... because that makes a big difference.

well, I do know about this (as in, what you mean), but wouldn't it be SUPER AWKWARD to send someone I don't know very well an email asking if she has eyelids?! lol I would ask my dad, but what are the chances he would have noticed...
I guess either way maybe I should play it safe and try to find someone who does specialize in asian makeup?
so wait, she wants to go somewhere or some one to come to her? offwhite does a good job. i also really like gene juarez. gl!
I don't know if she cares whether she goes somewhere or if they come to her, I'll ask. Thanks for the recs!
ETA: Offwhite is a great location if she did want to do it there! And it's within 20 miles so there wouldn't be an extra fee. So now I just need the asians to weigh in on this for me...
good call - Jenn/husky, do you think they did a good job? (sorry, I don't really know exactly what to look for in this aspect)
Uuuhm.... I don't know what to look for either, but I would not be happy if I ended up with some of those results.
yeah, I think some of the people look great (sarack!! that's you, right?!) but some of them not so much. And also, so many of them don't look happy, which is weird
I guess as far as the eyes go, I don't know what about the eye makeup is important.
I worked with Salon Maison and they were great. They have pictures on their website of their portfolio and there are several Asian brides in there. They come to you to do both the trial and the day-of, and the trial hair and make-up is included in the bride's cost. I think it was $375 + tip me.

I think the mug shot style of the photos doesn't help.

I wasn't a fan at all of the owner's attitude (offwhite) when I met with her when I was shopping for H/MU vendors, I think the negative yelp reviews are pretty spot on with what I experienced: www.yelp.com/biz/off-white-makeup-and-beauty-seattle

i scrolled fast, but i would say 2 out of the 3 asian girls, she did a good job... what you look for is to make sure your eyes don't blend straight into your face. the "eyelid" thing is difficult because of the way you have to do eyeliner/eyeshadow....and i really don't know *how* to do it, but i know when it looks good or not haha. i don't have the eyelid problem... blessed asian eyes here.
the other thing to look for is skin color. our skin has different undertones (fine, call it yellow), so a lot of regular foundations don't work.
This probably makes me racist, but whatevs, what if you went to mac or some other counter and sought out an asian make up artist? Most of them will do freelance work on the side.

THINK HOW I FEEL lol *awkwardly goes around scoping out the asian MU artists*
thanks guys for your help. Ugh, this is hard, and I thought the wedding dress would be difficult! Is it weird if I call places to ask them about this? I might also try going to counters at Nordstroms (I had a terrible experience at MAC - I love eye makeup they do, but have never had them apply foundation well, no idea why).
Personally, I would go scope out the mua in person. If you like the way she applies her own make up then chaces are you're going to like how she does it on you too. Well, your person, but you get what I'm saying.

yeah, very true. Ok, I'll add this to my to-do list this weekend... gah
