I had a really great phone interview this morning with another college. I was iffy on the position initially, but after talking with the HR rep and the hiring manager, it actually seemed to line up with what I'm looking for and sounded great. Then, at the end, they told me the hiring range. It's $20k+ less than what I make now. So I'm sending them an email withdrawing my application, and trying not to throw things.
Still waiting to hear back about the other job I interviewed for -they're making a decision on the 27th, apparently, and called a couple of my references last week. But there's a part of me that really thinks they also won't be able to match my current salary, because they were really cagey about the hiring range when I asked point-blank.
And then my husband, who still hasn't found anything (Grrrrrr) had a call with a recruiter today, and she was a complete asshole. She wanted to know who he'd interviewed with at another company, and asked him to send over references before she'd even send the full job description. He got the sense she was trying to work him over for contacts.
WHY AREN'T WE ALL INDEPENDENTLY WEALTHY??? Sigh.
If you made it through that, here's a pile o' cookies for you. :drink:

Thanks, Rock. Something will come along eventually for both of us, I'm sure. Frankly, I'd take two more years of shitty job karma for myself if he could find something.
...well maybe a year.
And yeah, $20k is waaay too much of a lifestyle shift at this point. That's what I was making two jobs ago here. Stupid well-paying university, heh.

That sucks. I'm sorry. This time of year is such a headache because no one gets back to you in a timely manner because of holidays and such. And I agree that your husband's recruiter sounds sketchy.

Thanks, all. vtdiamond, I'm in higher ed. The problem is that I work for the Holy Grail of higher ed around here, and very few places pay as well at my level of education/experience. (At least not most of the places that post their salary ranges, anyway.) So I'm just hoping that if the job I'm waiting to hear about doesn't work out, something will open up within my current university sooner rather than later.
