I wanted to have the minimum covered myself. I'm good now, right?
V NEVER kept socks on, they always fell off. I think you are good. Wait until your shower and see what you get and you can fill in if you think there is something else you need. Honestly, we didn't use any onsies or side snaps shirts. V used exclusively zip up and button up sleepers her first couple months of life.
The side snap tops and gowns are two things I wouldn't have thought of myself, but were suggested on here last week as something to have on hand to try. Apparently they can be a little difficult to come by.
Socks - just a multi pack of ones that can be folded down? Or the fuzzy ones? The ones with characters that are fitted look like they would be too tight/uncomfortable.
Thanks. I will snag a few sleepers if I see good deals on ones I like between now and Feb'ish. If not, I'll wait and see what I get at my shower and pick some up if I don't receive enough or any at all. (Shower will probably be in late Jan or in Feb.)
I admire you for wanting to get a jump on things, but DD outgrew her NB clothes in about a minute. I gave a ton of stuff away with tags still on it and still have some pieces, unworn, that I have saved in a box in case we have another. And I didn't go crazy at all stocking up. Most of it we received as gifts.

I am a planner, and hate having to go out or shop online for specific items when I am in need. That stresses me out because then I can't usually find what I had in mind. I hate running out of stuff around the house (consumables), and see this as a similar situation I guess, lol. I want to be prepared and not rely on gifts.
ETA: My sister was also on bedrest for the last 2-3 months of her first pregnant, and was so unprepared. I want to at least have the basics in order.
Carters sleepers should be just fine, especially if you intend to swaddle. I also like the ones from Gap.
You might want to make sure that you also have some basics in 0-3 month sizes because some babies outgrow newborn clothes very quickly. You really never know...DD was 9 days late and wore NB clothing for a solid 6 weeks and is still in 0-3 months at 4 months.

We were the opposite. DS was 5lbs 9oz at birth. We had to go out and buy more NB stuff bc we didn't have enough.
C was big, 9 lb 5 oz, and he still wore NB size for 2-3 weeks before 0-3 wasn't swimming on him. We had to run out and buy a few more NB things because everyone said not to bother since we were anticipating a large baby.

Neither one of my kids wore NB. I had one NB sleeper for each and they both were plenty big for 0-3 when we left the hospital. So I personally wouldn't buy anymore NB.

yeah this was us, we had one NB size sleeper and maybe 2 onesies and a pair of pants.

I agree with others -- get a few footie sleepers. At that age, I liked the ones with snaps (easier for diaper changes). I always liked the Carters ones. I would buy 0-3, though. Not newborn since the baby may get too long very quickly.
I'd also buy at least one cute outfit -- you may want something for coming home from the hospital or his/her first outing, etc.

This was our situation. DD was 5lb 12 oz at 40 weeks. We almost needed preemie stuff but my mom talked me out of it, which was lucky as she grew quickly.
I think this is good, CloudBee. Maybe a few zip-up footed sleepers, and sleep sacks if it will be cold in March where you live and if you don't get them at showers. Honestly, you may use NB stuff for a long time OR you may have a 9 pounder that never needs it--no way to tell. But if you like to be prepared (I am the same way), I think it's better to have stuff and not need it than need it and not have it. If you don't get tons of use out of them you can donate/save for #2/give to a friend.
I hated those stupid gowns. Before she was born, I was excited for them, thinking how handy they would be for diaper changes. Nope, they rode up all the time defeating the purpose.
Ditto everyone else who suggested some sleepers.
Also, we didn't have any NB clothes because I didn't know if we'd need them. She ended up wearing them for about a month. And we also didn't put her in socks for the first few months.

If you want to hedge your bets but not spend a lot of money, you can probably find plenty of newborn sized clothing at most children's resale/consignment stores. Since it's so often gifted and worn for only a matter of weeks (if at all), I was able to buy a lot of like-new newborn items quite inexpensively at the Children's Orchard.
I'd also recommend having at least a half dozen sleepers. There will probably be days where you'll go through 3 outfits in a few hours because of diaper leaks and/or spit up. You don't want to have a baby covered in spit-up in the middle of the night with no clean clothes left to wear.
We never used socks in the NB stage. DD was either in footed sleepers or was swaddled.
My daughter will often wear socks, a diaper and a blanket. I would recommend having at least a pack. They do fall off a lot, but some babies have really cold feet due to poor circulation.

I would also add footie sleepers. I prefered the snaps (didn't have to uncover as much of LO to get to the diaper) over the zipper ones. Target's own brand (Circo) did us very well for newborn sleepers. Their onesies run huge though. I would also stock at least the same amount of each item in 0-3 in case your LO is big.
I bought NO NB clothing bc everybody told me is was a waste....also DH and I are bigger people assumed our LO would be on the larger end of the spectrum. LO was born @ 38w5d under 6 lbs and 19 inches long. Long story very short, we had to borrow then go out and buy clothes for LO. Also due to some growth issues, LO was in NB size until almost 3 months old......we ended up going on a 2nd round of picking up NB clothing.
