If you don't have a front load washer and dryer what do you have? I am looking at the kenmore elite washer and dryer but not set on it. I definitely want a washer that can hold a comforter.
Our dryer is front load - do they make dryers that aren't?
Our washer is top load.
Both are GE, I think the dryer is GE Profile (gas). They're both pretty basic. They have the larger capacity size, but not many of the fancy cycles, etc.
I aimed for solid reviews, but reasonably priced. I don't get excited enough about laundry to spend $$$.

No they don't make dryers that aren't front load but I think most people knew what I meant

I have a Kenmore Elite! I love, love, love it. It's been 7 years and never had an issue. My dryer had an issue I posted about a few backs, but it turns out H fixed it in about 10 minutes (A screw fell down the back and stopped the tumble).
My wash machine is great. Uses just enough water but still conservation friendly. I can get a comforter it in no problem. It's quiet. I do a ton of laundry (Like 10 loads a week most weeks at least) and it's all heavy duty stuff (chore clothes/outerwear). It's been through a lot and still just great.
Mine doesn't have 4534543634 options on it, but I actually prefer it. Less to go wrong, less to think about. I just like various temp cycles, soak and second rinse....It's all I really need.
I b*tch about my Kenmore Fridge all the time but the W/D are pretty amazing.
I have Whirlpools. Worst appliances in the house. I've spent enough repairing the washer to have replaced it twice. The gas dryer has had 2 major repairs.

We got ours last year, they're from the Whirlpool Cabrio line. Don't remember the exact model, but the washer is top loading. I've been happy with them.
If you are looking at the kenmore elite, you might consider buying an LG (they manufacture them) somewhere else, where you can get better customer service.
Everyone that I know who has purchased an appliance from Sears in the past three years has had major issues with warranties and repairs, so I would avoid them like the plague.
