I've had my chops busted for not really doing Santa with Tman. We do like one of the replies on that thread: he's a character of Christmas. I like to mess with him when he says that Santa isn't real and gasp and say, "If you don't believe, the reindeer can't fly"! Stuff like that. He still will go up and sit on Santa's lap at the mall, and we always give him one gift signed from Santa, but he says Santa has the same writing as me. Ah well. I don't think we are keeping him from anything, we still let him enjoy Santa, but he's never really believed in him.
totally don't have time to read, but skimmed. interesting read.
we're not going to play heavily into it, but we will do it, and always get her gifts from santa, no matter how old or if she believes (h and i get gifts from santa every year).
I still believe in Santa. Now before you call the people in white coats, let me explain.
To me Santa is the magic of the season. It's the whole thing of being a kid again. I get gifts from Santa under my tree. It's just to keep that little bit of magic going. Santa still comes and fills our stockings on Christmas Eve.
this fight happens every year on TN/GBCN, lol. Personally, I didn't grow up 'believing' in Santa and I don't feel like I missed out on anything. We talked about who St. Nicholas was and we always had stockings and some gifts "from Santa" or "Mrs. Claus" but never thought he was actually real. I personally don't get why people want their kids to believe in him so badly - or get mad when they find out 'too soon' that he's not real. Just not my thing

Probably because they grew up with it, enjoyed it and want to pass on the tradition. And, it makes sense that it wouldn't be important to you if you didn't grow up with it.
no, I understand why they want to pass on the tradition. I just mean when they get angry at another mom for choosing not to follow this tradition and then basically blame their 5yo for saying santa isn't real. IMO by the time they are in school they're going to hear all sorts of things and you can't protect them forever. I don't care if people want to have that tradition, but to say other people are bad parents for not wanting to (and supposedly should make sure their kids don't say anything about it to anyone... as if you can control a 5yo!) isn't fair. I really don't care either way what other people do, just trying to give the other perspective of people who don't 'believe' in santa (because I think that's probably the majority here).
