I did! We didn't hit any lines until Joanns at 6.(we started at 3) We stood in line for 2 hours for $2.99 fleece and 99 cent patterns. I have fleece blankets to make for the NICU and my sister is going on an apron and skirt making spree.
We only go get our Xmas tree on black Friday. Our friend was talking about how he was going to the local Wal-Mart last night when he left our place at 10 because he thought it wasn't going to be bad. Okay crazy.
I go out/went out for black friday but I sure as shit am not standing in line like that. But you know, IDK, if I lived in an area that got fucked by Sandy and lost a ton, I might be tempted to stand in line if it meant getting a fantastic and I mean significantly better than I'll be getting between now and Christmas fantastic deal on something my kid really, really wants.
HS went to WalMart last night and made it out alive!
I DID!
Dude, it was INSANE. Our walmart shares a parking lot with ruby tuesday, home depot, and a local home cooking restaurant chain. The parking lot was packed and it was aaaaaaaaaaaallll walmart shoppers.
We were only in there for xcom which was $25 instead of $59.99. I had H drop me off at the door and I did recon. lol I quickly located the package, secured it under my arm and met up with the rest of my party. We gave the toy section a quick perusal, noted which items lit up tiny eyes for future reference and picked up tiny 'you survived walmart' trinkets for the kids then got the hell up out of there.
But dude, it was nuts. People were nice though so that's a bonus but there is no way in hell I go full on cart on any black friday special. Don't people know that's how they get you???
I did Toys R Us last year just to say I tried the Black Friday thing once.
Never again. I spent 45 minutes actually shopping, but was at the store for 4 hours. Hour and a half in line to get in the store, and two hours to check out.

Its the perfect time to go. All the crazy Thursday night folks are leaving and you can hit the 6 am openings. The longest line I've ever stood in was today at Joanns.
I worked 11:30 PM last night until 9:30 AM at Macy's. We had people lining up at our doors starting at 10 PM (!?) We didn't have limited quantities on items so I'm not sure why there were lines. I had $3608 in sales today. The goal for our stores was 875K. I know my overnight co-worker also had about $3600 in sales. This co-worker and I always have a fun working, the customers were ALL nice, no one was in a bad mood, impatient, etc.
Using a combination of Black Friday price, coupon "Macy's money" and my discount I scored 7 cup Cuisinart food processor regularly $149.99 for $28 (including tax). Employees earn "Macy's money" for various things and can use it for up to 1/2 the price of an item.
The only other shopping H and I did was local stores. Picked up the gift DD wanted for our grandson at a local bike shop. Regularly $99, paid $59. Picked it up for DD because she is out of town at in-laws. Next we went to lunch at Buckeye Hall of Fame Grill and then we went to a local shoe store, on that actually knows how to fit people and knows what they are talking about when it comes to shoes. YAY! H got 2 pairs and I got 1. Then it was home I'd been up for over 31 hours and was nodding off in the shoe store.
I went to Staples and Home Depot at about 9am for things that were on sale for good prices but not the big-ticket crazypants only-four-in-stock-at-each-store items. I got right in and right out.

The line was the same last year.
I feel like Black Friday has become less about Christmas presents and more about people trying to score shit they want for themselves.

I worked overnight. My second job is at Macy's and we opened at midnight. I worked a split shift: 11:30 pm - 4:30 am, then 11 am - 4 pm. The overnight was dead. Or, my floor was anyway. My section is on street level and I think everyone that came in just passed through us to get to the deals on other floors. It was busy today, though.
Obviously moolarkey and I work at very different locations. I made $45 last night and a little under $2,000 today.
I picked up some towels during my break. So exciting.
DH had to work today, so after I dropped him off I went shopping. There were a few specific items I had seen in sales flyers, but no "door busters." I started at about 7:30 this morning, and I think by that time all the over-nighters were already back home.
Oh hell no. The early morning craziness is not for me. We went out last night, M got a sweater, we drank beers and ate dinner and that is all. I spent the day cleaning house and watching Hulu.
I always go out on Black Friday but I don't even leave my house until like 10am. My ass is not getting out of bed early lol. It really wasn't busy at all this year.

This is what we do. I was thinking of going out early (Thanksgiving) to get H a present, but I found it online and was spared the crazy.
I stalk websites all year waiting for the presents I want to get people to go on sale. My Christmas shopping is all done save for the saw my mom is picking up for my dad and splitting with me.
I don't shop for myself ever, so Black Friday is no different.
We always go out on Black Friday. Always. Pre-kid, we did the midnight madness stuff at the outlet malls and Target. I appreciate my sleep much more now. I'm not voluntarily getting up at 1 am for the forseeable future. We went to Five Guys for lunch and went to the mall after that.
For the record, I have yet to actually buy anything on Black Friday. I hate standing in line to pay. I can't stand in those lines that snake the whole way around the stores. Hell, I walked away from Starbucks because line was 8 people deep. We just go to people watch. There be some crazy people out there.
lol Chirp. When I was younger, Mom and I did the same. We wet out to check out the crowds (which seemed less crazy back then) and take a look at the merchandise and that was about it. I later learned that was Mom's method of figuring out what she wanted to get me for Christmas. She would watch to see what I liked and then go back to get it later, sneaky lady.
