I had a semi-successful Christmas decorating day. DH (Jewish) doesn't want to participate, which I totally understand; I'm just not used to doing all the manual labor by myself. The morning started poorly when all the lights I strung along the roof line fell off after I was 2/3 of the way finished :-( I didn't have the heart to climb up the 20 ft. ladder to do them all again (heights aren't my thing). Then my Costco wreath, once out of the box and fluffed was about 6 inches wider than my front door. :-( again. So most of the lights and the wreath went back to Costco, and I picked up some live greenery and a live wreath. Luckily there was no one at Costco at lunch time on BF. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.
I was able to lower my ambitions and put a few lights on the porch. Not nearly as spectacular as I wanted, but I'm happy to have some lights on the house. Acceptable for a first effort, I say
Now that they are up, Mr.-I'm-not-participating wants me to go buy back one of the strings so that I can go across the porch opening. It would smack a really tall person in the head though, so I'm not sure it's a good idea.
I got 25 feet of garland for my mantel, and I used the remainder to make the wreaths for the front windows.
No pic of the front door wreath since it's dark.
The day definitely ended better than it started; I was just so disappointed when nothing was working for me this morning!
Thanks! They are from Cracker Barrel. That's probably a little old lady-ish, but they had great prices/quality, even after we had to pay for shipping to CA. Couldn't find anything else even close, especially with the woven seats. We don't use them nearly enough, but we love them when we do!
Very cute aweilba. I like that you have some cheer in different spots. I need to move beyond just decorating my front room. My mantel and the front porch are the only spots that get seasonal treatment right now. I'm not sure DH would appreciate any more Christmas decor though. Maybe I could do some Hanukkah decorating in the DR I also love the dog stocking! I'm gonna need one of those...
I want some nice winter pillow covers, not Christmas, like cable knit wool or something, for our couch so I could switch out the spring-looking bird covers I have in there. I shopped yesterday, and Etsy and Pottery Barn want a fortune ($60+ per cover)! If anyone knows where to get cozy throw pillow covers (18") for less, please share
Costco members need to enter their membership number during the registration process in the My Account section. Non-members will be charged a 5% surcharge over the member's posted product prices (except for prescription drugs). If you are not a member, we encourage you to join: Membership information.
If you are not yet a member, you will have the opportunity to add a membership to your shopping cart at the checkout page. The 5% surcharge will be removed if a membership is added prior to order completion.
BOOM! I am going tomorrow - I will pay 5% extra for my live garland, no problem.
Haha. That reads like it's good for online purchases. Does it apply in store? I couldn't live w/out my Costco membership now. Wine, beer, Mexican Coke, organic dairy and staples, massive generic Zyrtec bottles, wine, beer, holiday decor, movie tickets, memory cards, wine, beer, and a little more wine and beer.

It didn't end up mattering. My friend has been meaning to get a membership so I went with him and he put me on his. Boo yah!
Great! Good luck with the hanging. Enjoy the membership too. The only thing I don't love about it is the crowds. I try to be there when the doors open on Saturdays. If you don't have normal working hours, I imagine a weekday would be so much better.
