I get that is what one does when they are doing the monogram for one person, but I wanted to get them something jointly mongrammed. Does that make sense or am I just making it up that this is a thing?

Oh, I see. No, I don't think you are making it up. I feel like we got something for our wedding like this? In that case I would do husband/last/wife.

Monogrammed stuff (towels, bedspread) in my parents house is my mom's monogram first-last-middle. I understand it to be that since she is the lady of the house it's her initials.
