Yay!! Have fun! Which one did you get? I wish I had tips but I after 2 years, I know close to nothing about mine I don't have a fancy/cute cover like I'm sure you bought (or want) but mine is a simple thick bendable "clear" silicone and it's easy grip and absorbs some shock when dropped and I don't have any scratches, cracks or dents after all this time and I attribute a lot to that cover.
If you didn't, get yourself one of those clear transparent stickers to adhere to your screen. I find it wipes/cleans easier from face oils and better to scratch that then the real glass. I think they're like $10 or something, but worth it!
Apps you need: AroundMe, Facebook, MFP, Fitbit, ProBoards, Michaels, Jo-Ann. Good to get a free barcode scanner, I have RL Classic and it works just fine. Only works for Seattle, but Cocktail Compass is a free app from The Stranger that counts down all the happy hours in town One that I also really like is iPeriod, handy little tracker of symptoms, moods, cycle, has a space for notes, and also has a smaller built in CV tracker.
I would get OneBusyAway and then if there is a parking app, those are great. Whenever I park I use Parkdroid (for android, natch) to mark where I parked so I don't forget it. .
Some things I have told people before that they weren't already aware of:
1. If you hit the round home button and the off button at the top right at the same time, it takes a screen shot.
2. Multi-tasking can drain your battery faster (meaning- when you close an app, you are basically just bookmarking your place so when you reopen it, it picks up where you left off.) try and make a habit of regularly closing out your multi tasked apps by double clicking the home button, then click and hold onto any app until the icons start wiggling, then close out all your multitask apps at the very bottom of the screen.
3. If you are like me and look at the phone in bed laying on your side and it annoys you when your screen auto adjusts to landscape view, double click on the home button, but when your multi task icons appear, scroll to the far left. You will see an arrow in the shape of a circle. Click or unclick that if you want to lock or unlock your screen on portrait view. You will see an icon next to your battery sign if it is locked in portrait view.
4. I love that you can create custom vibrations just like you have a different sound for texts, emails, calendar, etc. And it's even better that each contact could have their own vibration.
5. To take a panoramic photo, open up your camera app. Click on options at the top middle and you will see the option for panorama.
7. If you want the fun emoticons - go to Settings/ General/ International/ Keyboards then click on "add keyboard" and select "emoji". Then when you are typing something, you will see a globe like symbol next to the microphone and you will see the pages and pages of emoticons appear. Click on the globe again to go back to the normal keyboard.
As far as apps- Southwest and Trip It (bc I travel a lot) IMDB and Wikipedia Shazam And I have a lot of fun Photo related ones (see screenshot) --memetic- you can make your own inspirational photos. --Photofunia is just as the name eludes. It also gives an option to create your own "Keep Calm" photo --I love GifBoom! It's just fun.
Hokay! If I think of more i will let you know! Welcome to the club!!
i was wondering about the multitasking thing.. it does seem to kinad drain the battery, and i could turn off all mobile data if i wanted to save battery with my droid. can i do that here. i'll have to try what you're suggesting and see if it works. thank you!!!
Carylee - custom vibrations, is that with the 5? I have the 4 and hadn't heard about that...
Yep. Go into your contact and hit "edit". Scroll down to text or ringtone and select "vibration" then scroll down to "custom vibration" and it takes you to a screen where you can make this.
