Is there such thing as a floor plan with a split entry (where you go up or down from the foyer), but that would have the exterior look of a colonial style home?
DH and I are going to be building a new home this spring, and we will probably end up going with a split entry home. This isn't really my first choice, but it would be the most functional for us, as I am planning on starting a home daycare in the future, and I would like to try to keep it sort of separate from the rest of the house by having the daycare primarily in the lower level.
Although I don't really like the look of split entry homes, I really think it would be most functional for us unfortunately... Anyone know of some nice split entry floor plans? We are looking for something with a master bedroom + 2 extra bedrooms all on the main floor.
The new owners really tarted it up and it looks much more appealing than it did when she sold it to them. It would be a great floor plan for your needs. The upper floor has a MBR with ensuite bath, 2 decent sized bedrooms, hall bath and a totally open cavernous living space for kitchen/dining/living. Downstairs was a big "playroom", a full bath and a good sized bedroom. I have been in other versions of the house where the open design was broken into rooms with walls and trimmed out to look more traditional.
Thanks auntie! That looks like something that could work for us. We would also want a garage off to the side, not under the house so that kind of poses a bit of a problem, because we'd like our main entry to have an interior door to the garage as well, so that means we would need to put the front door further to one side of the house... hmmm...
My MIL has a "colonial split" and it looks like a regular colonial from the street. There are also front to rear splits that are less obvious from the street. We looked at one that was great but didn't buy it because there was no basement.
