they really shouldn't call them anything to do with kindle or nook --- they are tablets - not e-readers... but you can read on them with the e-reader apps --- but it's no different than getting an iPad and using a kindle app on it, etc.... it's just a cheaper tablet than an iPad.
for me- there is no chance i'll read on any type of tablet --- when i'm reading a book i want e-ink (the new kindle paperwhite is lit up, but not BACKlit- it's really cool, my dad has one i tried out and liked a lot... but it's not a tablet - it's still an e-reader)

I have a Nook Color. It is backlit like a computer screen but it does have a nighttime reading function (the background is black and the text is white) which makes it a bit easier on the eyes at night.
