My mom wants to see a play that will be at the Detroit Opera House. I don't like driving in Detroit at night as the streets are confusing and it is easy to get lost if you don't know your way around (being lost in Detroit is NOT fun).
I noticed that they do have a couple week day matinees which would be perfect since mom and I both get weekdays off, however I worry that these performances will be mostly school children. I know from past experience that school children at a play and be rather obnoxious and ill behaved.
How likely is it that these performances would be mostly kids? The play is How the Grinch Stole Christmas if that makes a difference.
I have no idea about Detroit. In NYC the mid week matinee is a blue hair show (read: old people). With a smattering of tourist mixed in especially for a holiday show like that.

I think pretty likely based on the show. It is for kids.
That is kind of what I was thinking too. When I was in school they never took us to field trips to fun plays, it was always ones that we had studied in class like Romeo and Juliet and A Dolls House, so I wasn't sure.

me too. We saw tons of Shakespearre performances, but never anything fun.
When the Grinch was on Broadway I went to a Saturday matinee and my friends and I were pretty much the only unaccompanied adults in the theater. It was... pretty loud in there.
I'd think weekdays would be a lot of school groups, which is probably even worse than groups of families.
Do they have different day time performances? Like a 10 AM one is probably going to have kids but if they have a 1 or 2 pm show I think that will be less likely have to have as many school groups. They wouldn't have time to get the kids back and get them on their buses to get home.

They are all at 1pm during the week. The morning shows are only on weekends. Maybe I'll take a chance.
