I just got a bill for going to the ER the day after I was discharged from the hospital after having DD. $250!
Long story short, they screwed up my epidural. Then they screwed up the blood patch to fix the first screw up, so the day after we were discharged my spinal headache (awful, terrible, excruciating pain) came back. The head of anesthesiology pretty much told me it was going to happen, and what to do when it did. I had to check in to the ER and then they took me upstairs to maternity to do another blood patch.
Fuck. I have never been to the ER and didn't have a clue about my coverage, and honestly, that was the farthest thing from my mind anyway. I'm really hoping I can convince them to waive it or rebill it somehow.

I think if they told you to report back to the ER instead of being readmitted some other way, the hospital should take care of it. I'd call up the billing people and try to explain the situation. Casually mention the phrases "complications resulting from their actions" and "my attorney" a couple of times and see how it goes.
I honestly don't think that $250 is horrific for an ER bill, but if you ended up there because of someone else's mistake, you might try to hold them liable.

I would ask if they could reimburse you because it was their fuck up that caused you to have to go to ER. That's messed up. Especially since they predicted it. They should have just given you the 250 in cash before they discharged you with DD lol.
