I am supposed to have an ablation and can't really figure out when is the best time to have it. It was supposed to be tomorrow, but H is oot so I canceled it. I now have it rescheduled for 12/19 which is kind of a PITA because they only do it on Wednesdays, that's right before the holiday weekend and I'm taking Friday-Wed off and don't really want to take Thursday off too (I don't need to, I can go back to work the next day). Or I could wait until 2013, but I've already met my deductible for the year. WWYD? Option 1 - try to cram it into the end of the year, cost would be about $250. Option 2 - schedule it next year, cost would be $2000-2500, but I would then have met my deductible for the year (or come close).
If it matters I have a HDHP and have frequent therapy appts and am on expensive meds. Without the surgery I estimate I would normally hit my deductible in August/Sept.
My Mom had an ablation earlier this year. Even though they said she could go back to work the next day, she was so thankful she took the day off. She said there was no way she'd have been able to work.
Someone at work also had this done about a year ago, and there was no way she could return the next day. She said she was not only uncomfortable due to pain, but it was a time when she just really wanted to be in her own home to manage the after-care, per se.
I think her procedure was a Thursday afternoon, then she didn't return until Monday.
I had a catheter ablation several years ago to treat my arrhythmia. (I'm not sure if that's what you are having done? If that is different, ignore my post!) And I had it done on a Friday. It was supposed to be out-patient but I ended up having to stay the night because when they were prepping me to leave Friday evening I fainted twice. So I spent Friday night at the hospital and went home Sat. I basically spent all weekend in bed / on the couch.
I got pain medicine at the hospital and through the night but when I left I had very little pain. I never filled my pain medicine prescription. So for me, pain wasn't an issue as much as I was really tired and just not myself. And this sounds weird but my heart where they did the ablation was sort of itchy. I did go to work on Monday but ended up leaving because I still felt a bit dizzy.
If they only do them on Wednesdays then I'd think you'd probably want off Thursday and Friday. So if you can't take of Thursday then I'd wait till next year.
