I could live without the color matching, but I think it is a nice tradition. But alas, wasn't going to happen for me at a November game at a northern 1-AA school.
Greeks dressed up in pinwear for the homecoming tailgate though.
I saw this on a blog I follow; she's in the south SEC/ACC area.
I wear dresses (with boots) to football games. Not usually heels, but I've been known to wear a dress to a sporting event. I don't see the big deal. I think a dress is more comfortable than jeans.
ETA - There are some cute dresses. I might order one.
Yeah I'm excited for the BCS championship this year. Every time we play an SEC team I feel very under dressed. I doubt this year will be any different.

That first dress would work great for a woman at a UVA game, it would go great with the male uniform of Khakis, white button down shirt, striped orange/blue tie, navy blazer, and a baseball cap.
There is no way I could sit in a small bench stadium seat in those dresses after tailgating. Sitting in a dress like that in a "lady like" way would never happen a few beers in, lol, especially when you have about 6 inches for your butt.
Apparently I can add this fad to my list of reasons to hate the SEC...
Oh it's not a fad. It's what's been done for ages. I started college at an SEC school in 1999 and it had long, long been the norm. Man I used to look cute at games.
Yep, that looks about right. With heels, of course.
I have 2 coworkers that bleed black and red. One of them was complaining about climbing the stands in heels I suggested she just ya know, NOT WEAR HEELS to a football game. She acted like I suggested she just not go at all.

Yeah, I would totally wear those dresses with flat sandals.

That's kinda how I feel when someone tells me not to wear heels. I'm just :-| :-| and like I should just stay home.
I went to ECU freshman year, so not SEC or ACC. David Garrard was quarterback and we were good. We spent the entire game either milling around for boys and flirting, standing and yelling, or walking.
I did my masters and phd at ECU - lots of purple and gold dresses, pearl necklaces and heels all around :drink:
I went to an ACC school where dressing up was a tradition. I did it maybe a few games. The head coach actually tried to discourage students from doing it since it wasn't intimidating enough for opposing teams coming into our stadium.
I think they're cute. If it weren't for the fact that this type of attire would only be seasonally appropriate for one, maybe two home games, tops, around here, and the fact that I'm old and fat, I'd totally go for a dress. Some of the ones they have suggested for my school are adorable!
A lot of the PYTs up here will wear a sundress in August/September, but never heels. Our tailgating spot is in a grass field, and often muddy. Here, you're much more likely to see a dress with Hunters or cowboy boots.
While the girls are all looking cute in their heels and sundresses, do the guys overwhelmingly dress up as well? Or are they sporting tshirts and jeans?
I sense mocking in your tone but I refuse to b ashamed. If we're going to suck at football, why can't we look cute while doing it? FWIW stupid coach whatshisname convinced most students to just wear shitty orange T-shirts so we look like every other school.... while we get our asses handed to us.
I want to burn those orange t-shirts.
LOL. I had no idea that there were so many people from my alma mater on this board.
